Ok, so I'm going to keep this short because I'm tired. After 6 hours of work, and many hours watching the Miami Heat win the NBA championship title and OSU win against Miami. I know, weird that I watched sports huh? Well, it was a family event as I was watching it with my parents. I don't think I would have watched it on my own or gotten so into it otherwise.
Oh, and this is the 5th day that Brandon hasn't called...again. Basically, guys suck. I'm sorry but it has to be said...because I've encountered way too many of the wrong ones. Perhaps this was bad timing, because he is going away for work for a couple weeks. Perhaps he got all freaked out that he fell for me so fast (we did kiss the second time we hung out). Who the hell knows. All I know is I'm done. I'm done caring, and I'm back to being bitter again. Guys just bring stress and confusion. They blur the lines too much. They make it seem like there could be something more there instead of just starting out as your friend. At least that's how it always goes for me. I'm sick of it, it's a never-ending cycle. I don't want to subject myself to it all over again, but somehow that seems to be inevitable given my record. I give up, and I'm done...for now.
Other than that, first day of work was easy. I worked a 10-4 shift, and my employers are pretty layed back so far. No one standing over me telling me I need to move faster, no one being overly strict on dress code, nothing like Subway or Victoria's Secret. Which means, that if things continue as such for the most part, that this will be a sweet summer job. Basically, the first things I do when I go in are clean the bathrooms and change out the frozen inserts in the rolling coolers. The latter is a pain because you have to reach far in there and you can't take out the crate of products inside (because it is too heavy). Also, the frozen inserts are in a cart in the freezer, so the rolling wheels are frozen...so steering it is a pain in the ass. My hand got kind of bruised up from reaching in the rolling coolers, but I have gloves for tomorrow. Other than that, one of my main duties include carry outs (I got a 2 dollar tip today, even though we are not technically allowed to take them...it's kind of an at your own discretion don't get caught type of thing). On the way back from carryout's I roll carts in (by putting them in groups of 3's usually...cuz that's the most I can handle). Those are hard to steer and I should be building up a lot of arm muscle from that. Also, I switch out and face the eggs and the milk, restocking what needs to be restocked. So far there's been no bagging involved, but if they get busy there will be...and I did it once today and it was easy.
Other stuff I have to do is maintain the bottle machine outside, and take care of crushed cans and glass, and then crush cardboard in this machine that makes it so you don't have to break down the cardboard yourself. When I'm not doing any of the above, I'm facing the labels outward on shelves, sweeping up coffee beans, stuff like that. It's pretty straightforward. I got 2 ten minute breaks today. The first I used to run to Subway across the street, and then run back and stick my food in the fridge in the break room, then I got to eat it during the second 10 minute break. Everyone there is really friendly and the person training me was awesome, wanting me to ask as many questions as possible and wanting me to feel as comfortable as possible. Basically the day was a breeze.
Now I'm exhausted, and I have to make tomorrow's lunch, take a shower, get ready for bed, read a chapter in my book, and get some sleep. Tomorrow I work another 10-4 shift, then Thursday and Friday = 4-9 PM shifts, and Saturday I have off. Which means 22 hours for my first week, which is not bad at all. That's definitely more than Subway. Also, I still have a meeting with Murphy Management modeling agency...so I could potentially be making more money than I've ever made during either of my other summers. As I've said before, I'd be making bank...and that's exciting.
More later,
Heather
