Step One
- Make a post (public, friends locked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friends list (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
1) there are some big furniture-type things on my wishlist, which i know will not be happening, but it's a wishlist, so here they are:
* a twin-sized futon frame and mattress
* a good-condition loveseat or cozy recliner/armchair (like
this one)
* an ipod video 30GB or more
2) good books/recommendations. i fall into the habit of rereading favorites because they're familiar, and i like that, but i want to branch out... i just don't always know where to start. (i like a satisfying ending. doesn't have to be happy, although i do like that best, generally, but it has to have a nice, solid, satisfying ending that won't leave me anxious about the characters.)
3) a free petsitter the weekend before christmas, while Russ and Cody and I go to Grants Pass to visit my dad and stepmom.
4) someone to clean the house, and get rid of the boxes of stuff we don't need but i'm too much of a wuss to get rid of (like all the stuff i used to decorate my room in high school, which i will never use again, but can't seem to part with, and is sitting in a giant box in our entry closet)
5) stationary, pens, stuff that will encourage me to write letters, because i love to do it, even if i don't have time.
6)stuff for our walls. like, actual art things designed to put on the wall. by you or anyone you think i'd like. (hint:
love Kurt Halsey.)
7) letters. emails. stuff from you guys! anything you like.
8) i wish for all my beloveds to realize how beautiful, wonderful, and amazing they each are.
9) i think that's about all i can think of at the moment, i'll put something else here if i can think of it.
