Well, it has been an interesting past few days. The weekend was a lot of fun, although it had its share of vicissitude.
Friday after work I had dinner at Mimi's Cafe with Jenny, my oh-so-fabulous roommate. Then we came back here and prettied up before going out. Jenny is a manager at an LA Fitness, and one of her co-workers threw a party in one of the private rooms at Groove at CityWalk.
We were one of the first ones to get there, so we took advantage of the open bar while it lasted. We danced up on the balcony and laughed at the people who were dancing downstairs. Then one of Jenny's co-workers asked me to dance, so we did that for a while. He was a cool guy but a total metrosexual (he knew a little too much about the pinstriped pants I was wearing!). That was pretty amusing.
Then Jenny came and found me and we all went up to the stage and danced for a while. A 34-year-old black guy came up to me and bought me a jello shot and was all over me, so Jenny and Robert, one of her other co-workers, had to rescue me from that. Soon after, we all migrated to The Latin Quarter. I danced with Robert, and I think I complimented him on his biceps, which is actually pretty embarrassing.
CityWalk is a little different from downtown Orlando, in that they kick everyone out BEFORE 2am. As we were heading back to the parking lot, a group of us all agreed to meet up at the Denny's Diner on Sandlake. So we drove there and all hung out for a while.
It was cool to meet some new people, but I was really tired and absolutely freezing (don't ask why I ordered a chocolate shake when it was probably about 50 degrees in the restaurant!) Robert paid for my shake, which was pretty sweet, so I got a free dessert out of the evening. All in all, it was a good night.
Soo..I went to bed around 4am. I was awakened around 9am by Lindsay. I had to get up and get ready to head to Jacksonville. I got there around 1pm. We hung out at her apartment for a few minutes before heading to a Tires Plus. I promised my mom I would take my car somewhere to have the brakes inspected. While my car was being inspected, we had lunch in this nice, ritzy, historic part of Jax and saw "Just Like Heaven." When we went back to Tires Plus, I was informed that my car was not driveable and that it needed $800 worth of work.
At first I thought they were taking advantage, but they showed me all the problems, so it was legit. Basically, my brakes were shot to hell, and there was metal coming through my tires. I was lucky to have made it all that way on I-4 and 95 without a blowout. So while having to spend all that money totally sucks, it's a minor inconvenience compared to...well, dying. And Lindsay helped me realize it's a good credit-building opportunity. Yay for good advice from a good friend! :)
Anyway, we went out to some clubs on the beach later that night but there was no music and dancing, and we realized we don't know much about schmoozing. So we promptly retreated back to her apartment for ice cream, tv, and girl talk. We hit the hay not long after, and I spent the night having strange dreams about the RTS system in Gainesville and Tobey Maguire.
We spent Sunday shopping, mainly at discount stores and thrift shops, and just hanging out. We watched some of the new season of The Real World before picking up my car. Then I packed up and headed back to Orlando. Now, it has to be said, Lindsay has been doing Weight Watchers since last spring, and she has lost about 40 lbs, and she looks ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! Basically, I'm quite jealous (and proud, of course), and she has inspired me to really stick with a healthier eating and exercise regimen.
I am determined to lose these final 10 lbs. I know I can do it!! My current goal is to lose 5lbs by the OLP concert, which gives me 3 weeks. Wish me luck! I am off to a great start. I have made it through two days without soda, and I've stuck to about 20pts (going by WW) of food today. I may have gone over by 3-5 pts, but I did run for 45 min., so I think that is ok.
Anyway, this has gotten out of control. I will stop now so I can go clean the kitchen and my bathroom. Peace out, people. Oh, and if you learned anything from this litany, let it be this: Always listen to your mom, and have your car regularly inspected for problems.
