like whoa, my lj lives...

...but i refuse to involve it with anything i've ever made fun of anyone else for doing on live journal. i'm just posting my crazed lists from car delirium 8 hour drive today since i assume that everyone cares.

top ten albums

token beatles album
revolver.

token stones album
exile on main street. [missing my favorite songs, not even my favorite stones phase. but everything about it as a cohesive whole is perfect. rocks off may be one of the greatest first tracks ever (potential new list in future)]

token completely obvious album
radiohead, ok computer. [i will never forget listening to this on the first time in my grandmother's lazyboy in california on my headphones and just not being able to speak for 5 hours]

token controversial/asking to be mocked album
the strokes, is this it? [fuck you.]

token staple band, different album
the velvet underground, the velvet underground. [so underappreciated it makes me sick, pale blue eyes alone warrants its inclusion, less experimental and unaccessible as previous but not as obvious as loaded]

token please kill me (protopunk) album
the stooges, raw power

token our band could be your life (80s indie rock) album
the replacements, let it be. [tim is supposed to be the winner, but this one is more raw and interesting]

token hipster points album
gang of four, entertainment! [the most unacknowledged album that EVERYONE is ripping off, i'm completely baffled]

token underappreciated album
the modern lovers, the modern lovers [planning letter campaign to have this shit re-released]

token punk album:
wire, pink flag. [the energy and brevity...incredible knack to throw an incredible song in your face and just end it as it gets good seems far more punk to me than fucking safety pins and pseudo rebel lyrics]

honorable mention:
sonic youth, dirty.
rem, murmur.
the jesus and mary chain, psychocandy.
bob dylan, bringing it all back home.
david bowie, hunky dory.
iggy pop, lust for life.
television, marquee moon.
trex, electric warrior.
weezer, pinkerton.

the cure, the smiths, beck, dinosaur jr, the pixies...many ommitted due to failure to decide in massively good body of work or posession of lame comps or...i've realized how stupid this all is.

will inevitably be subject to change and regretted omissions.

songs that simply captivate me from beginning to end and i just want to play them again as soon as they are over.

no particular order. [now that's asking too much]

the replacements
can't hardly wait/alex chilton [both give me the same delighted bouncy bad dancing feeling]

velvet underground
pale blue eyes [my counter to my sister's constant taunting of me with brown eyed girl. eat that.]

rolling stones
beast of burden [the lyrics of the song so perfectly match musically...oh my god i need to stop trying to wax poetic and just list]

new order
ceremony

the au pairs
we're so cool [anyone and everyone must download this song as i assume most of you do not have it...catchier and around way before karen o and sleater kinney blah blah]

bob dylan
subterranean homesick blues

radiohead
fake plastic trees [not my favorite radiohead song BUT one of my favorite songs ever, the climaz is as close as i've ever gotten to a religous experience]

sonic youth
one hundred percent

beck
debra [great song to mention around boys, as all will give a great and guaranteed amusing attempt to sing it]

gang of four
at home he feels like a tourist

mission of burma
that's when i reach for my revolver

pixies
debaser [i always forget how absolutely good this song is...then i hear it again]

roxy music
pyjamarama

the cure
close to me [most romantic/pre emo anguished song ever]

andrew wk
party hard [just because of the furnace fest show, watching the dvd footage makes me realize that sadly, that's the closest i'm getting any kind of woodstock experience]

the beatles
happiness is a warm gun/paperback writer [just can't make the call right now]

iggy pop
the passenger

led zepplin
communication breakdown [i don't listen to this band, but i would listen to an album of this song]

joy division
digital [most pleasant unpleasant song ever]

get up kids
don't hate me [yes, i know...]

i will feel like an ass tomorrow for doing this shit and change half of these probably. consider it a draft.
