i wonder...

I am curious about a disease they call body dysmorphic disorder. This is when a person becomes obbsessed with what they think is a flaw about themselves. This is usually associated with eating disorders. Most commonly the person always sees themselves as too fat no matter how much weight they lose. This also happens when someone gets multiple plastic surgeries to fix their "problem". I watched a show the other night on cultural taboos. It included japanese men who get samurai tattoos all over their body and african women who stretch their necks. Then we came to america. Here, people purposefully have someone give them third degree burns in shapes and designs on their bodies. There are also the people who inplant objects under their skin to give themselves horns or to, again, make a design. Why are these people not identifed as having BDD? Apparently, they are not happy with some aspect of their physical appearance and they feel it neccessary to get tattoos, burn their skin, or implant a foreign object in their body. Both categories of people choose to do something to their bodies, what makes on any different than the other?
