Friendship. That is such a fickle thing to be honest with you. Who would have thought that being in love with Draco would mean that friendships cemented in that first year here at Hogwarts would be fractured beyond repair. Who would have thought that a simple friendship with a Slytherin would turn into a passionate love affair. Yes, indeed who would have thought...

Harry sat in an empty classroom his mind racing, remembering all of the years of friendship, how they had been known as the Golden trio. The many late night excursions only to find themselves in trouble. The shared laughter, the tears shed, the love flow. He had always thought that was true friendship, of course now, now he knew better. A true friend wouldn't completely turn their back on you even if they hated who you loved.

True it didn't mean they had to accept it, just not abandon me over it Harry thought. Quickly his thoughts turned to his lover, it had been awkward the first time they had attempted to have a civil conversation, but it had been a start. It had been Draco who had approached him one day and asked for a truce, stating that he no longer wished to be childish. He had been skeptical at first and had almost turned away until he heard the whispered confession. He had defected, wishing to pledge his support with the light, wishing to side with Harry himself. He had looked at Draco in surprise and had then held out his hand to shake on a truce. That step brought them to the start of a path that would ultimately be heaven and hell on Earth.

Those few months they got to know each other quite well. Both eventually revealing some of their darkest fears and secrets. He had felt such freedom in confiding in the slytherin, the darkness he felt inside of him was understood by the blonde and not questioned or feared. That was true friendship, the complete sharing of the deepest, darkest parts of yourself with another knowing that you had no betrayal to fear, or questioning looks to watch.

In all truth and honesty, he could see why he had fallen in love with Draco quite easily and if he were to be even more honest he could see how the trio wasn't meant to continue it's existence. He mourned the loss of young friendships, but the ones he had made now were far more valuable to him. The true definition of friendship was not a constant, it was an ever changing thing and so fickle. However, with every change in its definition all it signified was a person's own change.

Finally his mind stopped racing and everything became crystal clear. He stood up smiling and left in search of his best friend, his lover, his confidant, his everything. After all it wasn't every day you could have friendship before love and know that both were meant to last.
