Fic plot bunny, and questions about the geography of The OZ

Okay, so I have this idea for a fic that just won't leave me alone. I think I can make it work, but the plot involves some travel over the OZ and some basic idea of how things like fixing all the damage Azkadelia did would work.

The basics:

It's a rebraining!fic, where Glitch is scheduled for surgery to have his brain put back in by the evil!surgeon who took it out in the first place (I read another fic where this idea is used, and I think it's a good one - it was mentioned that as he'd done the surgery before, he was qualified to do it again). I'm not sure if evil!surgeon is alive after being shocked at the end of Part 3, but I suppose this and his name are open to interpretation.

The plot - which I'm still working out, involves evil!surgeon being part of the evil!resistance that's still loyal to the witch, so he captures the rebrained Ambrose/Glitch, and takes him to the resistance to use his brain power for evil purposes (naturally). And of course there's a whole romantic/angsty subplot where Glitch asks Cain to be there for the rebraining procedure because he's nervous and freaked out by the evil!surgeon, but Cain is stressed out because he's head!tin man now, and is overworked what with catching all the baddies in the OZ, as well as setting up a proper memorial for his wife Adora.

My problem is that I have a lot of ideas here, but in order to do them correctly I feel I need a better understanding of the "texture" of the OZ. What do you think a post-witch OZ climate would be like? I don't understand the geography, either - there are several castles/palaces shown where the royal family took residence, but where is the "center"? The one where Lavender Eyes (or whatever her name is) would take residence to put her kingdom in order? Prominent post-witch social problems?

Is anyone an expert on L. F. Baum's Ozian geography? Because I suspect that that would be helpful.
