Chapter Two:

“I don’t know, DG,” Glitch said on their way to an early breakfast. They had been planning everything for the last few days and it was now the first of February. “Are you sure twelve days will be enough?”

DG nodded. “Of course they will, Glitch,” she murmured with a smile. “If we do it every day, it will be just enough to pique his curiosity.”

Glitch exhaled heavily, still feeling uncertain.

“Trust me, Glitch,” DG said. “Here, give me that.”

Glitch handed her the single red rose he had harvested earlier that morning. It was perfect, not a blemish on it - but it was closed. He smiled as he watched DG touch it with her magic and it began to bloom. She stopped when it was just enough, and with a flick of her fingers, the edges of the petals glittered like gold dust, giving it an enchanted appearance.

“You have the note?” she asked.

Glitch nodded and handed her the tiny strip of paper that she curled around the stem and secured with magic.

“Now,” she said with a satisfied smile, handing the rose back to Glitch. “No one else will be able to read it. Why don’t you hurry and put it by his plate before he gets there?”

Glitch nodded, swallowing nervously and entered the dining room to find that indeed, he and DG were the first to arrive. It was lucky, he thought exhaling a relieved breath as he set down the rose at one of the place settings, that the man always sat in the same place.

DG smiled and nodded as she took her seat in her usual place and Glitch gave her a shy, uncertain one in return before sitting down and beginning to fill his plate. Unlike the other meals of the day, breakfast was done buffet style, since some tended to sleep in while others arrived early.

Glitch was relieved to note that the Princess Azkadellia was the next to arrive. While it made him a tad jealous that the man might think the flower from Azkadellia or DG, he was relieved that he wouldn’t be the first choice.

Glitch was busy eating when Cain walked in. He knew it was Cain not only from the greeting offered to him by both princesses, but by the change in atmosphere as well. He glanced up briefly to see the finely sculpted blond brow arch in question at the rose laying across his plate, and sure enough, his first glance was toward the females present.

Shifting slightly, Glitch placed one hand in his lap and clenched it, digging his nails into his palm as he tried to quell the surge of jealousy he felt and keep it from showing on his face. He bit his lip at another surge as DG reached over and touched the Tin Man’s hand as he sat down, picking up the flower to move it aside so he could fill his plate. He knew the princess was trying to help him, but he just couldn’t help the feelings that flooded him seeing her touch the man she knew he pined for.

“Read it later,” he heard DG murmur across the table to the man, before removing her hand from his, and he silenced a sigh of relief behind a sip of orange juice from his goblet as he saw the man nod. A short time later, having had his fill, Glitch once more excused himself and headed to his lab to await the viewer who was working with him today.
