After a three day break I went back to the Holy Family Hospital. I love it there - the staff there is awesome and I feel like I’m getting some work done too. Today’s visit was more rewarding than I expected. The Ayurvedic wing of the hospital was founded by two people - the senior Ayurvedic consultant, Dr. Bheema Bhatt, whom I talk to most of the time and Pande-ji who is a supervisor, teacher and a technician there. Well, I got a chance to talk to Pande-ji at length today and learned that he is also is a temple priest, a Sanskrit scholar and an astrologer - a very learned man. He suddenly took a liking to me. He very kindly invited me to eat lunch with him for I had been at that place for about 5 hours and he knew that I hadn’t eaten breakfast. It was simple homemade food - the hospitality he showed was very touching. He addressed me as “my daughter” the entire time. I was a little skeptical at first. I made sure the room where we ate had open windows and all that but he seemed very genuine - I am a pretty good judge of that. He read my face (in Indian astrology - one can read palms or the lines on the forehead). He told me things about my temperament which were more than accurate. I had not initiated anything, I was only asking mundane hospital/Ayurveda questions but he went on to elaborate on things that pertain directly to my life. It was baffling. He told me little things about my nature that only somebody who knows me very well can gain an understanding of. Not just that, he pointed out something that I did at one point very directly and yet very subtly for he never mentioned it explicitly but constantly hinted at how to handle it. He gave me certain precise advices that seemed very much in place. The one thing I liked the most was that I felt comfortable with him - didn’t weird me out or anything. One can just tell how kind he is - his work and devotion to patients speaks for it. I just wondered as to why was he so extra-nice to me but he constantly said that I am very nice girl with much potential and that I am daughter to him. Oh, he told me such good things about me, I could listen to him all day ;-). Anyway…got some actual work done too by talking to Dr. Bheema Bhatt later on. Hopefully I will get to witness some treatments tomorrow.
I went home to find out that Nicole and Meenal wanted to go to McDonalds. It was pretty funny, I took a picture of a message board there, saying: “McDonalds - no beef or beef products sold here.” Nearby was a NICE coffee shop with YES! YES!! YES!!! great wireless connection! I spent hours working on my lovely laptop. It’s LATE at night and I am still excited about that.
After hours of browsing, Nicole and I got our legs waxed. Sorry if somebody finds it gross. It was kind of painful…we were trying to laugh about it at first but then I finally had to resort to my “eyes-closed” way of dealing with it.
I got chided by my grandfather today coz I forgot to return some books to this certain guy who made a big deal about it. It was really my fault…I had known about it for two days but just kinda let it slip my mind. Anyway, I was supposed to make a few calls back to America (I almost wrote “home” instead of America - it is in a way - my family is there) but man did it storm! The windows and doors started banging so hard, a lot of pots that my mami had on her balcony fell down from the second floor and just barely missed the car parked below; the kitchen window was open and the rice pot sitting on the stove flew in the air - we had half the quantity of dinner than we were supposed to…hehe. The courtyard was flooded in a second and we had to secure all the windows and doors. I went outside to unblock the drains in the balcony and to tie down a partition that would keep the rain out from the open space in center of the house. I was drenched in a moment - it was wonderful to feel the cold breeze after days of scorching heat. It was fun to eat dinner watching the rain and feeling the cool air. We were laughing really hard too for some reason - I forget what - it was perfect. The weather is really pleasant now too but I am going to retire to an AC room for the mosquitoes have had a fair share of my blood.
I am very lucky and I can never be thankful enough for that. I have met such wonderful people in life to inspire and humble me - I hope I am worthy of my time with them.
