Kansas State Fair

Today, I drove to the Kansas State Fair. It wasn't too far of a drive, just two hours each way. I rolled down all of the windows and the sunroof, cranked up the radio, and pretended that it was a convertible. Good thing it wasn't really, though, because I drove through a patch of rain.
It was a fun time. It started out overcast so it never got too hot, and was sunny later in the afternoon. I started out with a ride on the ferris wheel, then I had a lunch of a BBQ sandwich and deep fried Oreos (which taste very good). I went through all of the animal barns. I saw a sheep shearing demonstration, cows getting milked (did you know that cows can choose to withhold their milk?), and even a newborn calf that had just been born several hours before. I got a "fresh squeezed lemonade" which turned out to be just sierra mist with a lemon wedge squeezed into it (so not cool). I went through all of the 4H exhibits, and through all of the commercial buildings. I usually don't spend money at those things, but I did get a jar of creamed honey and a box of fresh fudge. It's amazing what some other people get hooked into. I saw two ladies waiting for the trolley to the parking lot standing next to a piles of boxes that were half as big as each of them. I finished off the day with freshly-made butter pecan ice cream and a pronto pup. I came back before it got dark rather than staying for "Kool and the Gang" (how is it that the North Dakota State Fair can get the Black Eyed Peas, but Kansas gets a nostalgia band? Maybe Kansas spent all its money on the country musicians on the rest of the nights)
