Brewin' and dumplings

G and I both brewed today after work.  I got home early and put our water kettles on to heat up.  He started a batch of cheap date and I started a black ale that's been sitting in the cupboard for quite a while.  It was fun brewing in tandem.  We hit each part of our recipes at the same time.  During the boil we started reading a novel that we've had for several months, and hopefully we'll get to read it on the way to the DFW area this weekend.  That's IF I can go...

My grapes are supposed to come in Friday!  There's even some extra coming in and I'm hoping to maybe get some of the overflow.  They are arriving in Austin sometime during the day, so I will go up and see if I can help out when they get there.  I am planning to take my grapes home whole for the most part, and press them back at the house.  I want to avoid using sulphur dioxide and see if I can vint Roman style, which probably means boiling at least some of the must if not all.  Considering how hard it is to get wine grapes in quantity, I don't want to waste any.  I just hope they come in early enough in the day to get home in time to press them, boil some must, and still make it to hockey that night.  If I have to press after hockey, I can.

If I get behind schedule, I may need to stay home this weekend to process grapes.  But I will try to possess super powers on Friday!

As soon as we were done brewing tonight, I steamed up some potstickers and a batch of baby bok choy.  YUM!!!!!  Other than a very Winnie the Pooh moment when G and I ate leftover barley malt and honey out of a plastic tub, we hadn't had anything since lunch.
