so let me just start out by saying that, that huge update is probably never going to happen...lol! i'm too lazy and much too much happened over the summer and while i was away from the interweb. but lets just say there were a lot of fun times had...you know, the late nights that turn into early mornings and the early mornings that turned back into late nights...i've made some amazing friends and lost a few acquaintances too(RIP Eddie B and Addie) if you have myspace and i'm your friend then you can see some of the pix from the summer in the summer '08 debauchery album. i moved into a much nicer apartment back at the end of june, but it's also much smaller lol. but you've gotta make sacrifices in order to make gains so i'm happy and so you should be happy for me :)
now onto more pressing matters.
last week i received my electricity bill...which is the first i've received since moving into the new place for $337.70 no you're not reading that wrong...*cue heart attack* the energy crisis is proof right there that if in 2 1/2 months time i can rack up a huge electric bill for this little apartment then something seriously needs to be done. the economy sucks and everything is going up price wise...food, gas, energy, just everything. so how the hell are we going to get ourselves out of this hole if the cost of living just continues to rise sky high...we're heading for another great depression folks...sorry to say.
next order of business...
i got a craving for ice cream, like i so often do...but i was battling a losing war and finally succumbed to the temptation and grabbed my debit card and keys and rode my bike to the store some deliciousness...only to be shot down! the guy at 7-11 said my card was declined so i tried again...still declined...completely confused and having thought this was going to be a quick trip had left my phone at home. so i ride back home check my online banking and it says i have plenty of money for a $3 pint of ice cream. so i call my bank(yay! for 24 hour bankers!) and after entering my account number and access code it tells me that they can't help me at this time and i'd be transferred to the fraud department! *gasp* OMGWTFFRAUD?!?! so it transfers me and i get the credit department and they can't help me so that person transfers me to a phone banker and they can't help me so i'm transferred once again...this time on hold for like 10 minutes. finally a woman comes on the line and i explain that i'm completely confused and blah blah blah and she's like well let me just verify the last few transactions to make sure they were made by you. the first one she says is that there was an attempt to withdraw $500 from an ATM today...and i was like WHOA! no i didn't authorize that and then she said a couple more and they were all me...and basically she says that she has to close the card and send me a new one which i'll receive in 7 to 10 business days. i was completely baffled...because other than leaving my card with a couple different bartenders over the weekend my card has never left my sight. I STILL HAD IT IN MY HAND WHILE ON THE PHONE WITH THIS WOMAN!!! anyway, she said that the card had been compromised and she had no choice but to close it. this is what doesn't make sense to me...i have the card in my hands, i hadn't left the house at all today until i decided i wanted ice cream and it was an attempt to withdraw money from an ATM...which means that not only did this person get my card number but they also got my PIN number. it's definitely one thing to get someone's card number but MY PIN?!?!? apparently there are ways to make new cards with existing card numbers...*scratches head* they've gotta come up with a more secure card is my only thought something that is completely unique to each card
i'm just glad my bank is on top of things and that i definitely had less than $500 in my account because i can not think what would have happened otherwise.
so my thought is...if carrying cash is unsafe and carrying cards is unsafe...what other option is there?
electricity bill,
energy crisis,
summer fun,
economy,
debit card fraud
