I just realised if I include my trip to Minifest in this post, peoples flists might explode. (Even with the cut.) So intead I'm splicing it up. As you may have noticed from the title, this entry is entirely dance related. Be sure to gloss over the recap, although I strongly encourage you to take a gander at the youtube clips below. Some truly kick arse routines, especially from Jack. (The gushing, I promise, will be kept to a minimum. ;P)
The good news is the show has finished for now so this will be the last post on the subject....At least until the U.S series begins. (Fuck yes! I can't wait....I can't believe I can't wait. *laughs*)
That's all I have at the moment, but stay tuned. There may just be some upcoming hijinx of the illegal kind <.< But I'm not %100 on the details just yet. No, I'm not robbing a bank or streaking across a football field. Something way more interesting and far less revealing.
Now onto the words...............
The 'So you think you can dance' finale was on and, I don’t know what I expected, but I honestly think I could have crafted a more entertaining 2 hours of television. Lame. They started off with the 'highly anticipated' hip-hop routine that Matt Lee choreographed to a 'secret track' on the album. Turned out to be Rhianna’s ’Please don’t stop the music,’ a song that has been played to death on this show and I hate it. The routine was a mish-mash of all different styles, something they do a lot on the show, because no dance style is strong enough to exist on it’s own! You have to throw in a bit of swing, a bit of contemporary etc. But through all my sarcasm, I have to admit it actually turned out alright. I loved how each person (top 20 rejectee) sort of did a move and then the camera went on to the next. I also loved (LOVED) the fact that the choreographers and judges danced. (Something I‘ve been wanting and waiting for in the U.S. series.) Bonnie and Jason G danced Ballroom, Matt, Jason C and Kelly Abbey did hip-hop and yeah. All in all it was good.
Too many montage packages and crappy light effects. Shoddy camera work and can someone tell me why the fuck we’re getting new routines at this point of the competition? The whole point of this episode, besides naming the winner, is to showcase the stand out routines throughout the season….actually considering how many ‘misses’ I’ve watched I now see why. Really, Khali, who left in the first episode, was pretty forgettable and here he has a whole routine choreographed for him, accompanied by back up nameless dancers. Its mind boggling. The guy was not loved by fans. Where is Courtney’s routine? Or Marko‘s? (*Sobs* Marko, your solo was pretty much the only one worth mentioning this season.)
How stupid.
Anyway, The final four dance this weird meshed routine, that has them in black and white singlet/ pants combination, with red suspenders. And they have four chairs out. Hang on, why is this so familiar to me? Oh, I don’t know, maybe because I’ve seen this routine before….But honestly, this wasn’t anywhere near as good as the U.S. one.
I think these people think using chairs as props in dances automatically equates to awesomeness…Well I beg to differ. Other running themes, this show ran with over the course of the season,
*Bare feet in a lot of dances. Very strange and stupid, particularly with the ballroom.
*Starting dances with no music whatsoever. I’m talking 30 seconds of silence which is annoying, and doesn’t set the mood whatsoever.
*And the other thing was Henry’s chest, that pretty much featured in every single one of his dances. Now look, there is nothing wrong with dancers showing some skin, and okay, he’s not exactly unattractive but there comes a point where the person takes a back seat to the body. Put a shirt on guy!
We FINALLY get to the dancing from prior episodes. There's Marko/ Steph’s crack jive, Rhys and Jemma’s barefoot waltz, Hilton and Kate’s blue chair sex, Graeme and Kassy’s happy love contemporary and who else? Oh, Camilla and Suremsahs wuxia homage to Hero. I’d say I thought one of those might have been worthy of a repeat performance but God, sucky choices. The only awesome part was Vanessa and Henry’s African Samba. So frickin hot and I’ve included the vid below so you can check it out. I’ve also decided to include Rhys and Jack’s routine they performed two weeks ago, which was fucking awesome. Those two were so worthy of top two and I would have been happy if either of them one won.
Lot’s of little kids (boy dancers) which in concept I approve of. But the Tap Dogs group, and Tap Pups sounded very messy. There were so many of them tapping and it was hard to hear the beat. The arms looked like they were just flailing about so it looked weird. Ugh! Billy Elliot, the musical. Why? How…stupid. Sometimes I hate Australia and all it’s crappy productions. This is going to sound bad but the lead Billy (because I think there were 6 on stage at one time. O.o) did a really painful job of singing. The dancing was good. I mean impressive for these guys so young, but I know that if I went to this show the singing would piss me off to no end. I’d much rather see a play of Billy Elliot, with NO singing, and you know I like musicals, so for me to say that is bad.
I’m really getting over this show. Just hurry up and tell me Jack won. We get rid of Kate and Demi (<-Hooray! Bye bye!) and it’s time to reveal the winner. But wait, before we do, we’re just going to get you and Rhys to dance together one more time in yet another brand new routine.
Um…...ookkaaay. O.o
Geez, give these guys a break. This routine was also good, because it’s Rhys and Jack, but I’m over it now. Ooh, Mia Michaels recorded message to whoever wins. That was awesome! Jack wins the money, the trip to New York and the chance to perform in the choreographers ball. He'll participate in a Mia Michaels piece, she’ll create just for him. And I think it’s a very fitting ending. This is what the guy wants after all, to move to NY and appear on broadway shows, I’m sure this will put his foot firmly in the door. But ultimately, I’m really glad this show is over and it’s a relief I won’t have to watch it any more. Apparently auditions for season 2 are in September, which I knew they’d be since everyone is talking about this show. It’s also a huge rating winner. I just hope ten will come to their senses and fire Bonnie. (I‘m not the only one who want‘s this) That would make a huge impact on the quality of the show. Get a ballroom expert on the panel and stop taking music, costumes, and comments directly from the U.S. series. It makes us look inferior and talent less.

Second clip: African Samba, Henry and Vanessa. Truth be told, this routine actually turns me on. Or is that a little too much information?

Third clip: 'Singin in the rain' Hip Hop, Kate and Jack. Thought it would fail but they really pull it off. So awesomely awesome.
