"Don't get strung out, by the way I look!
Don't Judge a book by it's cover.
I'm not much of a man, By the light of day. But by night I'm one hell of a lover!"
I just got my first copy of The Rocky Horror Picture show on DVD (special edition). And it's so awesome.
I remember as a child, I would have been around 6. And my Mum and Dad would watch it with a few of their friends. I wasn't allowed to, of course, which fuelled my curiosity completely. Well what my parents did let me see were two numbers in the movie that occurred within the first 10 mins. 'Dammit Janet' was infectious and funny. These two people singing a ridiculous song about being in love and I just thought "What the hell is this?" And then, the song that just overwhelmed me, 'The Time warp'. Just WOW.
But then the tape would switch off. "Okay, that's enough. Off to bed".
Me: "Um, What? No, you can't! I want to see more!" Dad: "When you're older. This is for grownups"
Much Later. I saw it in it's entirety and just fell in love with it. It's insane, It's bizarre. It's dirty, it's hilarious. The songs are so addictive. And the plot seems to be understandable only to someone who has viewed it as many times as me. It's so clever, with all it's little references to b grade science fiction fliks, horror movies and famous actors of old. Also is interesting to learn about how it became a phenomenon and a tradition for a sort of audience participation. How there are segments in the film that generate a response from the audience, they feel the need to shout at the screen.
Tim Curry, plays this character that you can either see as horrifying or lovable, (or both) Thank you Richard O'Brien for creating this world of transvestite aliens and rock and roll. While it's not to everyones tastes, it is certainly one of my highest rating movies.
"I was feelin done in. Couldn't win. I'd only ever kissed be-fore.
I thought there's no use getting, into heavy petting. It only leads to trouble and, seat wetting.
Now all I want to know, is how to go. I've tasted blood and I want more!
I'll put up no resistance, I want to stay the distance.
I've got an itch to scratch. I need assistance!"
