Technologies of 2009

This is a review of the technologies that affected my life the most in year 2009. Your mileage may vary.

1. iPhone 3GS

iPhone 3G was great, but slow.
iPhone 3GS solved that only major problem the iPhone 3G had. Now all that's left is to make touchscreen work with the gloves and it is a perfect phone.

2. Nintendo Wii Motion Plus

Wii was a lot of fun. Wii Plus made it twice more fun.

3. Acer One 11.6"

My Acer One was awesome, but the screen still felt a bit too small and low-res at times. And with the battery lifetime of 2 hours its mobility was limited to having a cup of coffee while browsing the web at Starbucks.
The new Acer One has 6 hours of battery life (great for long distance flights!) and a high-res 11.6" screen.

So, turns out that mass technology did not make any massive breakthroughs in 2009, but the improvements of the existing products really made the difference this time.

As for the web:
1. Just Landed

http://www.justlanded.com
Just Landed is a website for expats. Imagine you land in a country the language of which you don't speak. You usually need to find a place to stay, a job, and residency/insurance/legal information. Just Landed aims at solving all of these problems and even has a community where you can find and talk to people who speak your language and live in the same city as you.

2. The revamped LinkedIn / LinkedIn iPhone App

LinkedIn does not feel like a dinosaur anymore. It's fast and beautiful. These things really matter when you have to answer a ton of messages every day and keep track of the meetings.

3. Chat Roulette

Video chat with random people. That says it all.

We saw a lot of improvements on the web last year. Let's hope it keeps getting better. Thank god most companies don't have to support IE6 anymore. ^^'
