Rain stopped play
Three little words that sometimes don't really convey the reality of the downpour that is occuring. The friendly game Shamrock Rovers were supposed to be playing against Sunderland AFC got called off for this very reason, and being there at the time I took a picture that should show why:
The flood waters would rise from the level in the pic until they reached where the cameraman is standing. The area was ok once things settled down a bit and the river the ground is next to went back to being within its banks, but with the pitch having a couple of ponds on it, there was never a chance of things being on again.
