There is little I can say that won't sound completely frivolous in comparison to what you're going through; "I'm so sorry" and the like doesn't begin to cover it. There is, unfortunately, little else I can say, so I am so very sorry for your loss.

As horrible as it is, at least the ambiguity is over with now.
