Evidently, this little exercise involves going to musicoutfitters.com and typing the year you graduated into the search field. Go to the top 100 for that year, copy, paste, discuss.

1996

1. Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix), Los Del Rio
2. One Sweet Day, Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men
3. Because You Loved Me, Celine Dion        (the previous three songs should be the target of firey brimstone death)
4. Nobody Knows, Tony Rich Project (yeah, I liked it)
5.                                                              ( I subconsciously erased some Mariah Carey crap song)
6. Give Me One Reason, Tracy Chapman  (I could roll with Tracy)
7. Tha Crossroads, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony  (it was "gangsta" rap that was at least a little more than verbal masturbation)
8. I Love You Always Forever, Donna Lewis
9. You're Makin' Me High/Let It Flow, Toni Braxton    (strongest voice in RB and yet the song is complete crap)
10. Twisted, Keith Sweat
11. C'mon N' Ride It (The Train), Quad City Dj's
12. Missing, Everything But The Girl (I really can't explain this one)
13. Ironic, Alanis Morissette (wrong....f minus minus)
14. Exhale (Shoop Shoop), Whitney Houston  (makes you wonder in retrospect, what Whitney was "exhaling")
15. Follow You Down/Til I Hear It From You, Gin Blossoms (yes, I realize this questions my hetero status)
16. Sittin' Up In My Room, Brandy  (die die die die die die )
17. How Do U Want It/California Love, 2Pac  (to be fair, this song was crap as well, but it has pleasant memories of my night job)
18. It's All Coming Back To Me Now, Celine Dion
19. Change The World, Eric Clapton
20. Hey Lover, LL Cool J
21. Loungin, LL Cool J  (shame on you LL....shame on you sir)
22. Insensitive, Jann Arden (regardless of the Gin Blossoms, I am in fact a man, hence this is just trite and whiny)
23. Be My Lover, La Bouche
24. Name, Goo Goo Dolls (like is a strong word...I'll say that I recognized decent writing and a catchy tune)
25. Who Will Save Your Soul, Jewel
26. Where Do You Go, No Mercy  (I liked it better the first time, when it was menudo)
27. I Can't Sleep Baby (If I), R. Kelly
28. Counting Blue Cars, Dishwalla (Out of this list of crap, I guess I could call this a favorite...I kinda liked the guitars)
29. You Learn/You Oughta Know, Alanis Morissette (I think everyone had a moment with this song, which is why they kept hoping she would produce something worth a crap afterward....no such luck)
30. One Of Us, Joan Osborne  (I think the reason this song annoys most folks is a combination of being HORRIBLY overplayed and mentioning God....God ain't a popular cat these days)
31. Wonder, Natalie Merchant  (I still like this song a great deal, kinda had a crush on Natalie Merchant as well but hey)
32. Not Gon' Cry, Mary J. Blige
33. Gangsta's Paradise, Coolio (not a bad song....sorta)
34. Only You, 112 Featuring The Notorious B.I.G.  ( I dunno, I never really saw any reason to appreciate BIG, overrated due to early death)
35. Down Low (Nobody Has To Know), R. Kelly  ( I really only started acknowledging Mr Kelly until after he started peeing on kids)
36. You're The One, SWV
37. Sweet Dreams, La Bouche
38. Before You Walk Out Of My Life/Like This And Like That, Monica
39. Breakfast At Tiffany's, Deep Blue Something
40. 1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin' New), Coolio (great song....simply put)
41. The World I Know, Collective Soul  (I liked this one as well)
42. No Diggity, BLACKstreet (Featuring Dr. Dre)  ( I was actually listening to decent hip hop at the time, ala Tribe Called Quest and the like)
43. Anything, 3t  (aw HELL naw)
44. 1979, The Smashing Pumpkins (not the Pumpkins finest hour but still, better than most of the verbal nausea on this list)
45. Diggin' On You, TLC
46. Why I Love You So Much/Ain't Nobody, Monica
47. Kissin' You, Total
48. Count On Me, Whitney Houston and Cece Winans
49. Fantasy, Mariah Carey  (Need I repeat, Mariah Carey makes me want to kick puppies and stomp kittens)
50. Time, Hootie and The Blowfish
51. You'll See, Madonna  (no I won't...silence wench!!! no one cares about your Matador boyfriend)
52. Last Night, Az Yet
53. Mouth, Merril Bainbridge (strictly a "it didn't bother me enough to cross it out")
54. The Earth, The Sun, The Rain, Color Me Badd (DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE)
55. All The Things (Your Man Won't Do), Joe
56. Wonderwall, Oasis  (nothing against the brothers Gallagher, this song is a festering piece of crap)
57. Woo-hah!! Got You All In Check/Everything Remains Raw, Busta Rhymes (hell yeah, one of the few examples of a decent rapper on here)
58. Tell Me, Groove Theory
59. Elevators (Me and You), Outkast ( there aren't enough underlines or boldnesses....this is "the" quintessential rap duo.
60. Hook, Blues Traveler
61. Doin It, LL Cool J
62. Fastlove, George Michael  ( I hung out with the "gays"...those "gays" they loved them some Fastlove...also my nickname for a few girls...but....ya know....not because I was....fast...or anything)
63. Touch Me Tease Me, Case Featuring Foxxy Brown
64. Tonite's Tha Night, Kris Kross (DIE DIE DIEDIE)
65. Children, Robert Miles  (every formal dance involved this song....everywhere in the country for a span of years)
66. Theme From Mission: Impossible, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen
67. Closer To Free, Bodeans (bad...BAD crappy, unoriginal marginally talented band)
68. Just A Girl, No Doubt  (anyone remember Gwen Stephani before she lost her friggen mind?  I do...and it makes me sad)
69. If Your Girl Only Knew, Aaliyah  (just because she was hot and went down in a plane doesn't mean that she was actually talented)
70. Lady, D'angelo  (there was a soul there....)
71. Key West Intermezzo (I Saw You First), John Mellencamp  (not a big fan of Cougarmelloncampman....but I didn't hate this song)
72. Pony, Ginuwine  (points deducted for poor songwriting, unoriginal beats and melodies, and ridiculous freakin misspelling for a name, a trend that continues to make my ass twitch)
73. Nobody, Keith Sweat
74. Old Man and Me (When I Get To Heaven), Hootie and The Blowfish
75. If It Makes You Happy, Sheryl Crow
76. As I Lay Me Down, Sophie B. Hawkins (I think this is more because I wanted to make babies with the woman)
77. Keep On, Keepin' On, Mc Lyte
78. Jealousy, Natalie Merchant (yeah, still had that thing for Natalie Merchant)
79. I Want To Come Over, Melissa Etheridge
80. Who Do U Love, Deborah Cox
81. Un-Break My Heart, Toni Braxton (credit....great voice and though it's more sugary than a bottle of syrup, not horrible song)
82. This Is Your Night, Amber
83. You Remind Me Of Something, R. Kelly (remind you of something Mr Kelly? Perhaps a childhood trauma that causes your compulsion toward excremental degredation toward young women?...cheap shot, I know...but hey)
84. Runaway, Janet Jackson (there's no reason to like this song, but it wasn't horrible)
85. Set U Free, Planet Soul  (I quote Dan La Sac, "Thou shalt not write repetative, generic music...thou shalt not write repetative, generic music")
86. Hit Me Off, New Edition
87. No One Else, Total
88. My Boo, Ghost Town Dj's (where did this silly "my boo" shit start anyway)
89. Get Money, Junior M.A.F.I.A. (at least they are honest about what they're in it for....junior mafia...sheesh)
90. That Girl, Maxi Priest Featuring Shaggy
91. Po Pimp, Do Or Die
92. Until It Sleeps, Metallica ( I prefer to simply listen to Master of Puppets and pretend that nothing occurred after the Black Album)
93. Hay, Crucial Conflict ( you gotta be friggen kidding me)
94. Beautiful Life, Ace Of Base (creepy)
95. Back For Good, Take That
96. I Got Id/Long Road, Pearl Jam ( I give credit for general band talent, not my favorite song)
97. Soon As I Get Home, Faith Evans
98. Macarena, Los Del Rio  (really did this defining moment of "mob mentality" actually make it on here twice?)
99. Only Wanna Be With You, Hootie and The Blowfish
100. Don't Cry, Seal

Wow, 96 was a shitty year for music....but I really am beginning to see where the pointlessness of music started it's trend in the mid nineties. Still, it was fun.
