You can't be James Bond AND Batman, you gotta pick

So, I have discovered that the West Coast sucks for being politically involved. I don't believe I have missed watching a Democratic convention since 1980 (I was a ridiculously wonky 9-almost-10 year old--hazard of being born in DC to politically active hippies, I guess). I went looking for it on my TV on Monday when I got home from work and had made some dinner, only to find it nowhere. Because, of course, they show it live here. Which means that people in LA are all at work, or on the way home from work, or making dinner, or something, when it's on. The one time tape delay might actually be, you know, useful, and it's nowhere to be found. *sigh*

As a consequence of this, I was reading the flist on Metallipalm on the bus coming home from work, and I came across a post from Complications Ensue, a screenwriting blog I subscribe to that's written by a Canadian screenwriter who has an interest in politics and speechwriting. He has been critiquing all the speeches at the convention all week, and it's pretty interesting stuff. However, his description of the roll call vote at the convention (which has always been my favorite part) blew me away, as much for what happened as his description of it. I so wish I could have watched that without knowing what was going to happen. But, reading it was pretty powerful, and I sat on the bus with tears rolling down my cheeks and a huge bubble of love and hope for my country swelling in my chest.

Fortunately, I will get to see Obama's acceptance speech tomorrow. I'll keep the tissues handy.
