I came home tonight to discover that I no longer suffer at the reception whims of my ghetto cable, for the DirecTV satellite was installed!
The fact that it was installed outside MY window, instead of outside my roommate's? A bit of a surprise. The fact that my room was already a mess, and now has MASSES of cable running along the bottom of my bed, not to mention a pile of sawdust and plaster detritus in a pile at my door on the pile of clothes that were already near my door (yes, I know they were on the floor, shut up! They weren't supposed to be covered in plaster dust!)? Somewhat distressing. The fact that I am now PAYING for a television-delivery system that does not allow me access to Comedy Central, E!, Bravo, and a host of other basic-cable channels? RAGE!
Yes, I am now guaranteed crystal-clear Winchesters, Friday Night Lights, Heroes, Earl, and The Office whenever they are on, and for that, I am very grateful. However, I was coping with the free versions and getting clear versions via the Internet that I already pay for. Even more annoying is the reason I suspect that I do not get these channels. Because I looked at the list of "basic package" channels that we're supposed to get, and all those standard channels are on there. However, I believe that, since the majority of the people in this household speak Spanish, we have some special Latin Package that does not include the standard channels I should be getting. It would have been nice if, when I was asked if I wanted to participate in the whole satellite dealio, I was told we were getting a whole bunch of channels I can't watch, instead of ones I want to. *sigh*
It's really not that big a deal, I know. I'm just pissed off that my room is now not only messy, but dirty, and that I can't watch The Daily Show. :(
I'll be much happier on January 11th when I'm able to see every tiny nuance of Jensen Ackles' amazing performance as it airs. I'm just cranky now. However, I do have "Modern Marvels" on, and there's a whole lot the History Channel makes up for.
