Now technically herecirm's recommendation on the list was Eric Newby's The Last Grain Race but as she was so disappointed when I chose that over Moonfleet that she actually gave me the latter for my birthday, it seemed unreasonable not to make the switch

:D Ah, there it is. I'm totally geeked that you enjoyed the friendship between Elzevir and John, too. The film adaptation removes Elzevir completely, from what I recall, and places an aristocratic randomer in his role. Which is a bit odd. But as it was seeing the film that made me read the book, I don't hate it that much...
