Music Weekly: Week 20: Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi

Jun 08, 2011 22:01

At the recommendation (and a quick listen) to this album at People Music in Guildford, I thought I'd go for it. I'd never heard of Danger Mouse aside as a superior TV cartoon character. The proprietor of the shop (Howard from the Vapours) erroneously thought that I'd probably recognise some of the songs from the radio. I've certainly not heard anything from this album on radio 4.

Well, I was a bit dubious, really. The whole thing sounded like a gimicky concept: a faux-spaghetti western soundtrack. I mean, I like Morricone and that style of music, but as a deliberate gimick, I wasn't sure it would work. It is actually pretty good, though. There are some nice songs. Catchy ones that I find myself humming, but I don't think I'll be filing it amongst great albums. Fun, with some nice songs, but it doesn't stand as anything but a novelty album.
