October 2011
"T-minus 90 minutes and we'll be there." The countdown was passed down the airplane until each uniform clad man got the news, all the way back to where Noah Puckerman sat in the last row. Though his focus was more inside his head than it was out the window he was looking.
"Are you sure you want me there?"
"Puckerman, listen," his attention was pulled by a fellow soldier,Seth Jackson, his friend and battle buddy since boot camp turned around in his seat, "Becca, the kids and my parents are going to be there, and you've been invited to have dinner with his. Becca and My mother insists; they nearly cried when I told here you didn't have anyone there for you last time."
"Thanks, Jackson, but that won't be necessary this time. You can tell them no Kleenexes needed, I won't be alone this time."
"Its the first time you're allowed to come, of course I want you there."
"Alright, its just...don't be mad. I wanted to surprise you."
Those words had been glued in the back of his head since they had last spoken and were making the last two hours nearly unbearable inside his head. It was almost worse, the excitement of knowing someone was there this time than when he had come home from his last overseas tour, when they hadn't gotten to see each other until nearly a week later.
When they finally landed and lined up in front of the crowd, Noah resisted the urge to fall out of attention on he was told to, in rush of families trying to get to their servicemen and women. His eyes were scanning looking for the familiar face. He had just passed Seth and family when he heard the familiar voice.
"Looking for someone, Puckerman?"
The goofy grin spread across as he turned to face his fiance, quickly wrapping his arms around Dave's neck.
"And no heavy making out until we get to a room. I don't want to scare anyone back into recondsidering the repeal."
And then he felt the space forced between the two them and he looked dow. Between them, Dave's stomach was protruding, roundly in an undeniable shape. His eyes grew as he met Dave's.
"Surpise."
"What--."
They were interuppted by two hands clasping his shoulders, "I knew it, Taggart owes me twenty bucks." The overt enthusiasm of Specialist Seth Jackson was infectious as he extended a hand, "We were wondering why such a bad ass didn't talk about having anyone. Seth Jackson, nice to meet you."
"Dave Karofsky." The recent college graduate replied, a little shoced at the warm reception. Jackson's eyes caught sight of the baby bump before looking to Noah, "Congratulations...." He smile glazed into a smirk, "I guess this explains what you did on that two week R and R six months ago."
"Seth." He wife chastised, "It was nice meeting you, Dave, any time you need to talk let me know."
The Jackson's disappeared off to their dinner. "I think we should do the same." Dave offered a hand, but Puckerman wrapped his arm around Dave as the other man continued, lips brushing the side of his head, "I'm so glad you're safe. I'm so happy you're home."
There was more he wanted to say, but he just smiled, "Me too, Me too."
