Disclaimer: I don’t know these people. This is all fiction. Probably.
A/N: I’ve never written a song fic before, but this song popped up this morning on my computer while I was getting ready for work. I hadn’t heard it in years, actually (that is an indication of how much music I have on my computer), but it fit Lea/Dianna… and suddenly I was writing this in my head. And then in class. And then tonight when I should have been writing a paper. Oops. This is a common theme in my life, I feel. Anyway, it’s not much, and it’s unbeta’d, so I apologize if there are crazy amounts of errors.

L.A.

It’s been two weeks and three days long… I’m all alone since you’ve been gone.

Lea sighed as her eyes opened. She reached to her left, hand sliding over and feeling the cool sheets with regret. Rolling onto her side, she pulled her pillow over her head, blocking out the sun that was surely mocking her. She let out a cranky whine and, with the pillow still over her head, she reached blindly to her nightstand, fumbling for her iPhone. Poking her head out from under the fluffy pillow she checked the screen. Just like she thought, there was a text waiting. She smiled at the words.

D: Morning, babe. I have a pretty hectic day today, but I’ll try to give you a call later… at the very least before I go to bed tonight. Hope I didn’t wake you. Love you.

I can’t keep myself from asking why, just want to see my reflection in your eyes.

Groaning as she rolled out of bed, Lea padded to her bathroom, grimacing when she took in her weary reflection. Sometimes she didn’t know what Dianna saw in her.

By the time she got to the studio, Lea was utterly and completely petulant. Everyone left her alone, knowing that she was missing the blonde costar. They all were, of course-but Lea took it to new levels.

“I don’t know how they expect us to keep denying their relationship when she’s this obvious,” Jenna whispered to Chris when they saw Lea moping on a couch in the corner. The lovesick girl’s phone trilled once, and when she looked at it her face lit up.

Chris looked at Jenna with a grin, “No, not obvious at all.”

Just know that I’m with you, and what you feel I feel it, too.

Lea couldn’t fight the smile that crept onto her face when she read the text.

D: Hey, you. I’m about to shoot a scene, but I just wanted to say I miss you. Is that too dorky? I wish I was there… or you were here. *sigh* Hope things are good at the studio. I promise I’ll call later, babe.

I’m feeling lately, I’m going crazy. Wondering how I’ll go on without you. I keep on trying, slowly dying, thinking of how I need you here with me.

The brunette quickly tapped out a reply. I miss you, too… you dork. She kept it light, knowing that this was an important opportunity for Dianna, and she didn’t want to make her feel bad for taking advantage of it. She missed her like crazy, but they were more than half way through. She could be strong.

New York

I wear your shirt, the scent of you, reminds me of the night when we became two.

Dianna opened the door to her hotel room at the end of the day, and quickly went to her bed. Reaching under her pillow she pulled out an oversized faded red and black t-shirt, and quickly swapped her clothes for the comfort it provided. Pulling it up to her face, she tried to catch the hint of Lea that still lingered on it. She didn’t wear it every night because she was afraid it would lose the scent she so craved.

It was late, but with the time difference, she knew that Lea would still be out. She crawled into bed, thoroughly exhausted. She snuggled into Lea’s shirt, breathing in her scent and she found her thoughts trailing to her girlfriend. The blonde squirmed a little when images raced through her mind of chestnut hair spread over a white pillowcase, chocolate colored eyes slamming shut as Dianna thrust three fingers deep inside of her. Just the thought of the smaller girl arching beneath her made her ache.

There’s nothing else that feels the same. Every day there’s sun it feels just like rain.

Dianna was missing Lea more than she felt comfortable expressing. She kept putting on a brave face, and it was true that she did enjoy her little adventures, but she found herself craving her girlfriend’s presence constantly. When she was running around on the beach, she just wanted Lea to come running up behind her and tackle her. Even when she wasn’t actively thinking of the brunette she found herself slightly more subdued than normal. She knew that it was ridiculous. They were two adult women. They could last a month. It really wasn’t that long.

Curling onto her side and cuddling up with a huge puffy pillow, she couldn’t help compare it to wrapping her arms around Lea… and, well. There’s no comparison, really.

She grabbed her phone, deciding that it wouldn’t hurt to try to call.

Just know that I’m with you, and what you feel I feel it, too.

Lea picked up on the second ring and Dianna feels homesick all over again when she can hear Kevin, Jenna and Chris laughing in the background.

“Hey, you.”

The soft voice made her heart clench, and Dianna could only whisper a quick hello back. Apparently the group had figured out who was on the phone, and a chorus of greetings from her friends made its way to her.

She could almost hear the scowl in Lea’s voice when she scolded them, “Guys, come on. I’m trying to talk to my lady.” Then muffled laughter from the trio, clearly not apologetic. “Fine, I’ll see you guys later,” Lea huffed, and Dianna could feel her face pull into a quick smile at the fake annoyance. Another chorus, this time of “byes,” and then Lea was talking to her again, her tone lower. “Di?”

“Mmhmm?”

“Has it been a month yet?” Lea’s voice caught, like she was unsure if she should voice that particular thought.

Dianna rolled onto her back, biting her lip because she wanted to say yes. “Not quite,” she finally admitted. A soft sigh was her girlfriend’s only reply, and she listened to Lea turn on her car, the familiar beeping followed by loud music that was quickly silenced. Was that…? She grinned when she played the notes back in her head. “Set me free why don’t you, baby…” She sang quietly, unable to keep in the chuckle springing from her lips as she finished the line.

This time she could hear the grin in Lea’s voice when she said, “Don’t let me stop you, D.” A short pause and then a more subdued, “I just miss your voice, so I thought it might help.”

If you think it’s easy for me, well you’re wrong. Sometimes I’m weak and baby, you know I’m not that strong.

Dianna felt the three thousand miles between them like a physical loss, and she tried to stay positive. “I have a whole playlist on my iPhone that’s just you right now,” she admitted sheepishly. “Not just Glee, but Spring Awakening, too.”

“Dianna Agron!” Lea’s scandalized tone was foiled when her laugh bubbled through the line, “That’s kind of stalkerish, don’t you think?”

And just like that, Dianna felt a weight lifted. She smirked, “I don’t know. I don’t have it on full blast in my car where anyone can figure it out.” She laughed, just one little giggle, and then continued, “Babe, you really are obvious. And Jenna told me that they’re onto us-an interviewer even brought us up. Maybe you should tone it down a bit.”

They talked while Lea drove home, and Dianna smiled at the image in her mind of the shorter girl stooping down as she walked into her apartment, greeting their cats. Dianna let her girlfriend talk to her endlessly, reveling in her happy tones, and she didn’t realize she had started to doze off until she heard her name.

“You tired, babe?”

“Mmhmm.”

“Go to sleep, beautiful. Wake me in the morning?”

“Lea, I’ll be up so much earlier than you.”

“You’re worth it. Plus, you’re saving my new neighbors from hearing ‘You Keep Me Hangin’ On’ on repeat all morning this way.”

Dianna smiled, “’Kay. I’ll talk to you in the morning, then.” She was suddenly reluctant to get off the phone.

Lea could sense it. “It’s okay, keep the phones connected, I’ll be here while you fall asleep.”

Dianna felt like a little kid and a little bit pathetic, but she knew it would help. Good night, moon.

L.A.

You’re in New York, and I’m in LA. There’s so much to tell you, words I need to say. But your phone keeps ringing.

Lea knew that she shouldn’t be mad at her girlfriend. She knew that she was being ridiculous. Dianna was really busy. It was just-she thought that they had agreed that Dianna would call her when she was getting ready earlier that morning. And it was now two in the afternoon. She hadn’t gotten any response to repeated phone calls (which she felt kind of embarrassed about - she didn’t want to be that girlfriend). She hadn’t gotten so much as a text message.

When Amber had called her that morning to see if she wanted to meet up for coffee with her, Naya and Jenna she had actually snapped at her. Amber had hung up on her. She deserved it. She immediately called back, realizing that she was taking out her frustration on the wrong people. Frustration that shouldn’t be there to begin with. Her friend had graciously accepted her apology, and she decided that she couldn’t mope around the apartment all morning, so she did meet up with them.

It had helped to get her mind off of her absent girlfriend, and there was something to be said for how much conversation could be held within the hour and a half they were together. She felt like she could have silence for the rest of the day and she would not miss speaking. Lea grinned to herself at that thought. Dianna wouldn’t believe it. Not that she blamed her-she knew that pretty much every interview they had been in together Lea has taken over. She’s aware of her ability to be quite forceful with her opinions, and she has tried to curb it, but then an idea will pop into her head, and it immediately is coming out of her mouth.

She shook her brown locks, sighing as she looked at her phone for possibly the hundredth time since she got home. Not that she could have possibly missed a call. The phone had barely been more than a foot away from her since she woke up, and the volume was all the way up.

I need you here with me. It’s been two weeks and three days long. I’m all alone since you’ve been gone.

“Waiting on a call from someone special?”

The voice broke her out of her reverie and she jumped in surprise, heart racing. “Dear God, Di! Are you trying to kill me?” She clutched a hand to her chest, trying to slow the pounding there. “And I was, but my girlfriend decided not to call me after promising she would.” She pouted pitifully.

Dianna was standing in her doorway, a small suitcase resting at her foot, as Claude rubbed against her left calf. “Wow, that’s a pretty poor excuse of a girlfriend.” The taller girl’s lips quirked in a silly grin, “Miss me?”

Lea had already hopped off the couch, and she bounded over to her girlfriend, enveloping her in a tight hug. She hummed in appreciation of the arms that encircled her waist, and turned her head to kiss the soft skin on Dianna’s neck. “More than you could know,” she nipped gently at an earlobe. Then she pulled back to take a good look at Dianna. Her smile bright, she asked, “What are you doing here?” Not giving the blonde girl a chance to respond, she kissed her quickly, “It’s a good surprise, and it may actually get you off the hook for this morning, but… you’re supposed to be shooting for another two weeks.”

“Yeah, I know. I can’t stay that long, but I found out I have today and tomorrow off, so I’m booked on a redeye tomorrow night.” She leaned down to kiss the brunette more fully. “I missed you, too, you know. Lots.” She punctuated the last word with a little nip of her girlfriend’s lower lip.

“Well, I guess we’ll have to make up for lost time.”

There was no talking after that.
