I've been sick since Monday afternoon. I think I am okay now. I still had a low fever this morning, but since taking a shower it has been normal. I asked yesterday evening for someone to take my shift this (Wednesday) afternoon, because I wasn't sure if I'd be better. This is the second time I've had the flu this winter. What's up? I'm not supposed to get sick!
Now I have a problem. Tuesday was midterm test in the Massage class. I had to miss it. I was hopeful up to afternoon that I might be well enough to do it, but one of the teaching assistants had asked me to let her know as soon as possible to let her know if I would make it, so I finally called and bowed out. I guess I will be able to make it up, somehow. Also Monday practice class I have to make up. That may be difficult, if no one else in my class missed the same practice. (Since we practice on each other.)
Saturday I practiced on the two boys. While practicing on A, I thought out loud about what to do next, and if I had done things in the correct order. He said, "Mom, I don't know if you'll pass the test..." I said, "Don't worry we are all at the same point of having to think about what to do next. If you weren't my son, but an unknown customer, I'd be quiet and you'd think I was just concentrating--you wouldn't know I was thinking, "Now what?" He thought about that, and said hopefully/winningly, "You should practice on me again, without talking, to get used to it!" I meant to practice on everyone, but Ya was busy elsewhere and H was upset that I practiced on the boys first when I had offered to work on her first. She was busy each time I was ready, so they took her place. But she is eleven going on twelve, and logic doesn't cut it.
A few weeks ago I practiced feet and legs (anterior) on Ya, but I wasn't able to position the table I was using right to be able to do arms as well. This Saturday I made sure to move the table away from the wall into the center of the room, so I would have room to work at the head of it as well. I was able to do feet/legs, hands/arms and belly on the boys. All three of my guinea pigs enjoyed their trials, thank goodness. I still need practice in petrissage. I feel confident I would pass the test anyway, but I don't like the idea of moving on to learning different things while I still feel I need to practice what we've learned so far. I guess those of us who want to practice what we've learned so far will have to do so outside of class time.
Because of the financial pressure of having to pay for the massage course, I have been eating all the time with no regard to hunger or lack thereof. This is even more illogical of course because I started out by cutting out all extraneous (junk) food to save money. And now I don't care what it is, just get it in my mouth. Luckily that stopped while I was sick, at least.
At work, they've taken on a bunch of new cashiers which means that we all have at least two days off a week (in addition to Saturdays). This might be nice if I didn't have the financial burden of the massage course. Now it is just nerve-wracking. After the course it could be a great way to start working at a hotel or spa once or twice a week while still working as a cashier the rest of the week, to start to build experience and confidence in massage.
That's all for now.
