This morning a tiny mushroom on a needle-thin inch-long stalk appeared in Y's terrarium. Tonight it's already frazzled and wilting. We enjoyed it, though!
Sweetie has reclaimed her place on my lap. The kids refuse to sleep without cats to warm them. Except Ya, who still claims to hate them, although there are signs to the contrary.
I've abandoned plans to find other homes for most of them, it'd be kind of like deciding which fingers to cut off. So, yes, we really do have seven cats. Kind of embarrassing to say, but we cohabit well. Sometimes it's hard to find a cat when you want one. They do have rare occasions of insanity when they chase each other madly around the house, trying to out-do each other's incredible leaps, rolls and flips. I don't actually say, "Take it outside," like I might with the kids; but I open the door and shoo them out if need be.
I can't claim to have trained them to behave well. I've trained myself to deal with their shortcomings. I feed them before feeding us (yes, the Torah tells us so) because it enables us to eat in a relaxed manner rather than hovering over every morsel so that it won't disappear in an amazing cat snatching feat.
When the weather got cold I found evidence that my long rectangular planter had been turned into a bathroom by some rain-adverse cat. So the planter went outside. I found myself throwing open the door, standing on the patio in the rain and calling, "Wow! It's so nice in the rain! Come on, it's great! Boy, it'd be fun to pee out here!"
Today I tried to figure out how to close off the area under the skylights, so that heat won't rise up there and get lost. I abandoned two ideas, but have returned to the original one. I'll have to get back to it though. Tomorrow Aa will come over in the morning. I'm to go to social security and then work.
