I abstained from computer use for both days of the holiday.  The children also went without the beloved television at their dad's house.  It was quite refreshing.  The kids actually *gasp* played!

We enjoyed the first holiday evening with G's family.  She and M were both thrilled that I finally accepted one of their invitations.  G, who is loathe to touch or be touched (yes, I often wonder where those five children with her hazel eyes came from), actually couldn't stop hugging me.  I enjoyed the singing of Shabbat zmirot there.  The ex never sang them, the kids laugh at me when I try, and refuse to sing themselves.  M gets his boys to sing harmony and backup.  He even took a little stroll down rock and roll memory lane with Si singing "boopboopdedoop" between verses.  Si often sings the solos in his school choir.  Ir seemed to be very much a part of things, which is weird since M was such as arse to him when he was little.  I guess growing bigger and taller than your dad is advantageous.  Ir is 16 now and quite hunky.  That made Ya nervous and when he had left to go to synagogue she grabbed me and whispered, "Stay right next to me, all the time."   Ah, teenage-hood!  Mine lost in a score of dust, hers so crisp and fresh.

To stave off insanity while leaving the computer alone, I made a library run before the holiday.  Right now I'm reading The Brothers K, by David James Duncan.  It's very humorously written.  I've only started and it's already pretty depressing, despite that.  I dread where it will go.

The cover says it was a must-read in 1992, so of course I've never heard of it.  I had already left worldly knowledge, materialism and modernity behind by that time, I guess.  What a nut:  a very sincere and devoted nut.  An almond, if I remember correctly.  Nutty, but sweet.

Y threw up this morning, which made him happy since he realized that could turn into a whole day of watching tv at his dad's.  It did indeed.  In the afternoon he threw up again.  He told me gravely, "I'm allergic to sound.  I heard the sound from the television, and that's what made me throw up."  I don't think he needs any more schooling.  He can start applying to medical research facilities as soon as he feels better.
