Today was election day, and the kids had a short school day. Ya went to Ha's to surprise Sl with a birthday party. H went to the mall with Ya's friend (and our neighbor)Ean. She thought she would have a good time and I believed she would too. But it was miserable typical Ean fare. Ean did what she wanted, used H's money to do what she wanted, and H was miserable and ignored the whole time. A talked me into finally taking him to the mall to buy the skateboard he chose as a birthday present, so I went with him and Y. We did some wandering around, tried to find jeans suitable to A with no luck. We thought we would see H and Ean, but never ran into them.
We took the bus back with A holding the skateboard as if he was going to jump on and breeze off the second the bus stopped. I got off a stop earlier so that I could go vote. They walked home--actually went to Ba's and watched a pirate movie with their nephew In.
I thought I would have to wait in line to vote at seven in the evening, but there was no wait at all. Very quiet.
One of our neighbors was at a booth outdoors. It turns out he is our new community leader. So it is good to be able to put a face with the position. He and his sister grew up here, and live near us with their respective families. He was asking people to fill out a form as to who they are and what their interests and interest level is as far as community matters. I filled it out but managed to be honest in putting my intention to be involved at extremely low. Until the kids get older, I can't really see myself doing anything that involves going out at night.
