IIRC, there was talk of something coming with the first DVDs to discount the full season box when it came out? Or something like that? It doesn't make a lot of sense in retrospect, but that's what I remember.

I wouldn't be surprised if they released both a DVD of just the back 9 early in the summer, and then a full season box for the holiday season, with a bit more in the ways of special features that aren't already online content (I'm looking at you, blooper reel!). I've seen other shows do it, and I think Glee's wildly popular enough to justify it.
