I think there are countless reasons to hate Will. And I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. I enjoy flawed characters. It's just that the show doesn't seem to think that he's flawed, or at least it's not acknowledged in any real way. So my main reason for disliking the Will Schuester character is that he's painted as someone to look up to, to admire, a good guy, when a huge proportion of his actions are reprehensible. I've posted about this many times in many places so I'm going to do a straight lift of a paragraph I wrote elsewhere:
In the very first episode, Will plants drugs on a student and blackmails him into staying in an activity he didn’t want to take part in because he needs to keep him in Glee. (Some might say that this is not dissimilar to pretending to be pregnant in order to keep hold of a partner with a wandering eye, but whatever.) He lies to his wife about spending money, both on the running of the club and on a photo for the yearbook. He quite blatantly flirts with another woman while believing his wife to be pregnant. He ditches the Glee Club to become part of Acafellas. He allows a forty-year old alcoholic to join the club and take the starring role. He is inconsistent in his approach to allocating solos. He turns a blind eye to bullying in many forms. He thinks that kissing Beiste is the answer to her lifelong struggle with her body image. He physically intimidates his wife after he finds out about her lying. He allows his own views and spurious moral code to dictate the Glee Club’s playlist (but abandons this when he needs to perform Britney numbers with them.) He seduces Sue, leaving her confidence in tatters. He cheats on a woman who he has chased for months, and who has just admitted to him that she’s a virgin. He uses the Glee Club to impress said woman by putting on a highly inappropriate show. He is very clear that he plans to pursue said woman, despite the fact that she is in a happy relationship. I could go on...
So that's why I think it's perfectly valid to dislike Will. Feel free to disagree ;)
(BTW, I was a rabid Werri shipper from the very first episode, but Will's actions in The Substitute made me think that he's definitely not good enough for Terri.)
