(part 2)
***
Brad let out a scream of rage, and the automatons tried to sort through their programmed emotions to find the proper response to this uncharacteristic display. Sue had been sweet, had been kind to these idiot children, and Brad wanted to break something. He wanted to break Cooper Anderson's spirit, but that was an abrupt and unpleasant change of thought. He was still there, then, still in the back of his mind. Him and his handsome face and complete inability to act. Brad almost found it endearing, and he knew that McKinley might be changing him for the worse.
When he heard that Cooper was in the auditorium, preparing to have a conversation with his shorter, less handsome brother, Brad felt his teeth clench. He wouldn't go, he refused, but he did his duty and sent the automatons to the stage. They would need to perform behind the brothers while they sang an inappropriate duet, that much was sure. He knew these kids too well to think they would avoid any opportunity for song. He would not be there, though, would not sit on the stage and participate...
It was with some shame that he lurked in the back of the auditorium, standing in the shadows and watching them sing. It almost sent a surge of jealousy through him, seeing Cooper sing a heartfelt song with his brother and then hug him. It wasn't romantic, Brad was no fool, but the jealousy persisted. He watched them talk, watched them reaffirm their brotherly bond and run off to be loving and helpful with each other. Away from the halls of McKinley, thank goodness, and Brad could go back to plotting without Cooper Anderson to distract him.
"You won't break me," Brad said quietly, speaking to the school as she controlled the auditorium lights and cleared the instruments from the stage, storing them back in Brad's underground lair until they were needed again. "You won't use his handsome face to derail my plans any further."
There was only one answer for it. He would have to make Cooper Anderson his. Then there would be no outside distractions.
