Hell to the yes, you just described me to the T. The very first time this happened to me was with LOST, which I was really turned off by initially because I was a kid and it was supposed to be this plane-crash drama with a lot of people dying and I just really didn't like it. Then my sister started watching it every week and after a while I couldn't avoid it and sat down and actually watched it - BAM, hooked for 6 years and still one of my favourite shows ever.

Then there was The Vampire Diaries, back when it started airing in '09, and everyone was saying how crazy amazing and cool and awesome it was but I just really really didn't want to watch it, because I was seriously turned off by vampires thanks to Twilight at the time and I was like, no, eww, vampires? hell no. Then last summer, it was the beginning of vacation and a friend of mine was constantly spamming my Facebook wall with TVD so I decided to give it a try - watched the two seasons aired as of then in a week and a half and instantly became addicted.

Then around the same time TVD started showing, there was Glee, and yes, I admit that my 2009!self watched a few episodes (it aired Saturday afternoons around here - aka at the time where I'm usually not at home because I'm out with friends because SATURDAY) and then was like 'a musical that's a tv show about teenagers? meh, no, when is LOST coming back?'. So basically, I just really didn't like it, because of all the singing and stuff it really reminded me of HSM and I was just over my 'OMG HSM YAY TROY BOLTON GABRIELA WOOO!1!1!!!!!!' phase and starting my 'HSM sucks and I hate it and I'm not a middle-schooler anymore so no' phase so yeah, HSM turned me off Glee, a lot. Then last year, I got on Tumblr and started following some parttime-Glee blogs and it was all over my dash and I decided to give it a try. As you can see by the fact that I'm stalking the angst meme 24/7 I'm still very much obsessesed. ;)

And yeah, I was the same way with THG, turned off by all the violence. Oh, and also the whole Team Peeta/Team Gale stuff, reminded me too much of Twilight.

(BTW, long reply is long, sorry, I tend to ramble a bit when on the Internet...)

LOL long is good:)

I still remember the exact scene and time I started getting hooked on Glee. I had the TV on mute and Glee came on. I was mostly ignoring it but 'Beth' started and I unmuted it out of curiosity. Watched half the first season that night.

The Team Peeta/Team Gale stuff never bothered me since it's not too prominent in the books and I always thought of Gale was kind of a 'he's there and pretty much her only friend' option. And if I go into something knowing it's Young Adult I expect a love triangle of some sorts. If the author doesn't have one, the fans will make one.
