Hybrids aren't pets or slaves or anything, but do have different citizenship statuses making them a little lower class than full humans. Kurt goes to school at McKinley like in canon. Hybrids aren't necessarily rare, but are uncommon in the area.
Kurt's dad dies or needs to be put into long-term care in the hospital.
Sebastian or Puck, depending on who you choose for this, has had a bit of a crush on Kurt for a while now, but didn't want admit it (Sebastian because he 'loathes' Kurt, Puck because he doesn't wanna admit he might not be completely straight.. or whatever reason you want). But now that Kurt needs a shoulder to cry on and maybe a place to stay, this is a good opportunity for them to step up and be there for Kurt in hopes of winning his love.
You can have this either before Blaine (if it's Puck) or have it be more recent like S3 and have a Klaine breakup (but please no Blaine hate) or even just have that Blaine never existed.
