“Yes,” Kurt replied. “I’m fine. Why do you ask?”
“You were really off tonight. I mean, you picked up the steps okay-you’re a pretty fast learner when it comes to choreography-but your timing was really bad when we put it all together. That, and since you were late to practice and all…you just had me worried.”
“Oh. Um, nothing’s wrong. I’m just tired. It’s not a big deal.”
Blaine lifted an eyebrow in incredulity. “Make sure it isn’t. You’re right up front in this number. Everyone can see you, so any wrong move you make is a bad reflection on the group. Why don’t you get yourself some sleep? I can run through this song with you in the morning if you want. You know, since you seem to be having trouble with it.”
Kurt nodded, keeping his eyes low. “Yeah, okay. That would be great. That’s…that’s really nice of you. Um, what time should I-?”
“How about seven? I don’t have class tomorrow until nine, so that should give us plenty of time to go over everything.”
“Actually, that won’t work for me. I have a class at-”
“Great. I’ll meet you here.” He winked at Kurt as he walked away. “Don’t be late.”
Kurt stood there in the nearly empty room until the last boy filtered out and he was alone. He sighed and flopped down onto one of the room’s scarlet couches, slumping down low over his knees. He should go up to his room, get to work on his homework. He was behind enough already without him putting anything off, but he was so tired. All that running and dancing had really taken it out of him.
He looked at the grandfather clock against the far wall. It was almost nine o’clock. He really should head upstairs. Curfew was fast approaching anyway. He really didn’t need another mark on his record for getting caught outside his room after dark.
He stood and his legs burned from overuse. All the dancing, though not overly strenuous, had been a little too much after running. He rubbed his thighs and straightened. “Just suck it up, Kurt,” he whispered to himself. “This isn’t too bad. You can do this.” He breathed in deep as he rounded the corner to the stairs leading up to the dorms. The steps loomed before him like a mountain. He heaved out a sigh and began his intrepid trek upwards.
His legs burned and his still damp hair was uncomfortable on his neck and forehead. He was going to need another shower. Might as well get that out of the way first. It would help his skin, if nothing else. Might help him concentrate on his homework too.
“Come on, Kurt. You can do this,” he huffed quietly to himself as he climbed up that stairs. “Besides, all this work will help your butt look fantastic.”
