‘’Kurt?’’ Finn’s nervous voice came from the other side of the door.
Kurt sighed as he wiped at his eyes. Wrong timing, Finn. ‘’What?’’
‘’Uhm, are you alright? I heard a lot of yelling… Were you and Burt fighting?’’
‘’It’s none of your business,’’ Kurt replied sharply. ‘’I’d appreciate it if you c-could leave me alone now.’’
There was a short pause before Finn said, ‘’Are you sure?’’
‘’Yes, Finn.’’
‘’You can talk to me, you know,’’ Finn offered awkwardly. ‘’I mean, we’re brothers, dude. Don’t they tell each other everything?’’
‘’J-just go away,’’ Kurt said, hoping he’d get the message.
Kurt waited until Finn’s footsteps disappeared and he heard the noise of his bedroom door slamming shut. He stood up and tiptoed to the large mirror, watching his reflection bitterly.
His face was pale. Paler than usual. His nose was slightly red, just like his eyes. Tears were still streaming down his flushed cheeks, to his chin and then falling to the floor.
‘You cause your dad too much stress,’ a voice in his head said.
Kurt shook his head as he pressed with his hand against his temple.
‘You know it’s true. You have to change yourself, so he doesn’t need to deal with the stress your problems cause. If he has another heart attack, it’s your fault.’
Kurt knew deep inside that the voice was lying, that everything the voice said wasn’t true, yet he decided to believe it. He’d become perfect. For his dad. For Blaine. For his friends.
He sighed, staring into his reflection’s teary blue eyes. ‘’I’ll become perfect,’’ he said, sounding loud in the quiet room. ‘’I’ll change if it’s necessary.’’
Although he knew he wouldn’t make himself happy.
