The Price of Pride (3x11 Spoilers) - Sebastian, Kurt, Others. morkhan February 1 2012, 00:47:57 UTC
Inspired by Grant Gustin's recent guest appearance on CSI: Miami.

Sometime post-Michael, Sebastian is diagnosed with a terminal illness. It's something that requires a transplant that not just anyone can give him (liver, kidney, bone marrow, etc). For whatever reason, his family is ineligible to donate, so his father pulls some strings and, through a wildly illegal search of private medical records, finds a match for his son.

Unfortunately, said match happens to hate his son with the fiery passion of a thousand red giant suns.

Yes, Sebastian needs a piece of Kurt in order to live. Unfortunately for him, Kurt refuses to give up the goods. It may have something to do with Sebastian's refusal to show any kind of genuine remorse for anything he's ever done. His 'apologies' are not even remotely convincing, and he all but flat-out tells Kurt that he intends to act like the entitled dick that he is for the rest of his life.

Papa Smythe tries to grease the wheels with money, but Kurt doesn't bite. He wants a genuine apology from Sebastian, and will settle for nothing less.

Naturally, Sebastian is far too proud for that. So instead, he starts a smear campaign against Kurt. He pays Jacob Ben Israel to run the story on his blog, making him look as sympathetic (and Kurt as heartless) as possible. He starts popping up around town, pretending to be reformed, and looking far more weak and sickly than he actually is (via professional make-up artist). He does everything he can to make Kurt look like a dick, and soon, his efforts start to bear fruit.

Kurt finds himself pressured from all sides to give into Sebastian's demands. Even New Directions is divided on the issue. Some think Sebastian should fuck off and rot, some think that Kurt should save him, and some think that it's ultimately Kurt's body, so it's Kurt's decision.

Kurt tries to remain steadfast, but it's not easy when the people around him look at him like he's a murderer.

Meanwhile, Sebastian's emaciated appearance and sickly act are coming closer and closer to being reality. As his body starts to fail him, Sebastian has to ask himself: is his pride really worth his life?

Any and all details up to the author. As for how it ends, I see three possible endings.

1. Kurt decides to just go through with it. If you choose this one, I want Kurt's ultimate decision to have nothing to do with what others think-- I want Kurt, himself, to decide to save Sebastian's life even if he doesn't deserve it, because that's who he is.

2. Sebastian breaks. If you choose this, I want Sebastian to be well and truly broken. Sick, in pain, and practically sobbing. And even then, his apology should be more out of fear of death than any real remorse. Post-operation, he should not instantly become a good person. At the most, he should reach a truce with Kurt and admit his manipulations to New Directions, hinting that maybe, one day years from now, he might become a decent human being.

3. Either or both of the above, but Sebastian dies anyway. Maybe it's too late to save him, or something unexpected happens during the operation, or he's in the middle of his apology and his body just gives out. Kurt knows, logically, that it isn't his fault, but he still feels terrible. And-- providing he is conscious for them-- Sebastian spends his final moments contemplating how pointless his life was, realizing it's no one's fault but his own.

SUMMARY OF LONG PROMPT: Sebastian is sick and needs something from Kurt in order to live. Kurt demands a genuine apology in exchange. Sebastian isn't sorry, so he responds by starting a smear campaign painting Kurt as a heartless murderer. Kurt is pressured by all sorts of people to give a piece of himself to save someone he hates. The situation is resolved when (Kurt just goes through with it/Sebastian breaks down from fear of his own death/Sebastian dies).

Nice prompt, but how come I could also see it as being that Kurt decides in the end to donate, but there end up being complications that end up with him dead, while Sebastian continues to live.
