Fill 3: Kurt's spying on the Warblers doesn't go so well Triggers: Violence chirpingemu May 22 2012, 00:00:30 UTC
Kurt found that he was rather enjoying Blaine's discomfort during the next silence. It wasn't often that Kurt had this much control in a conversation and it was a heady experience. He kept looking at Kurt's face or his hand and wrist on the table and kept looking away, awkwardly. Finally, he saw the Vogue sticking out of Kurt's bag and leaned forward eagerly. “Can you believe that they actually put Andrej Pejic on the cover?”

Kurt forgot to maintain his hauteur and leaned forward. “I know!”

“You know, he's amazing and deserves it, but in a way, I kind of have misgivings about so much emphasis on how androgynous he is.” Kurt tilted his head and waiting for Blaine to continue. “A lot of society still thinks of us as failed females or wanna-be females or that in gay relationships, there's still a man and a woman, and a lot of people could see him as confirming that.”

Kurt refused to believe that he felt anything unusual when Blaine said “thinks of us,” beyond the pleasure of speaking with another openly gay man, and answered, scoffing, “Tell me about it. Every day I have the pleasure of somebody calling me lady or pointing me to the girls room. You can actually pass as heterosexual.”

This time, Blaine looked at him, gazing up and down without any sign of awkwardness. “I dunno, you definitely seem male to me.” He shrugged. “Maybe I'm just used to counter-tenor voices, my parents are opera nuts, but I just see you as a well-groomed man with a complexion that guys as well as girls would kill for.”

Kurt raised an eyebrow again, but said nothing, and Blaine fumbled with his cup. “I mean, when I first saw you, that was one of the things I noticed. I know we...”

Kurt hesitated, but he knew he'd have to do this if he was going to have an actual conversation with Blaine instead of only a series of apologies. Right now, a conversation truly sounded better. “We don't have to keep returning to that topic, you know.”

Blaine looked him right in the eyes and smiled. “Thanks but, well, I can't stop thinking about it.”

“We've all done things that we're ashamed of.”

Blaine looked down and then met Kurt's eyes again. “I guess.”

“Anyway, did you see the new Armani line in their spread? I can't believe the cut of those pants, it's like they're channeling Alexander McQueen himself.”

“Well, they're getting a lot of inspiration from Japan, and since last New York Fashion Week, I'm not surprised.”

“That's something I'm going to attend. One of these years, I'll be there.”

“Designer or buyer for a store?”

“Celebrity guest. I don't exactly get a chance to shine in our glee club, there's this one girl who acts like she's entitled to every solo and she and her boyfriend are entitled to every duet number, and our director does everything he can to encourage her, but, still, I'm going to get out of here and into a good music and drama school, and then, look out, Broadway, Kurt Hummel is coming and he's going to change you forever.”

Blaine's smile could have warmed the planet faster than a dozen big energy corporations given an unregulated environment. “I believe it. You've got it in you.”

They returned to talking about fashion and then about music, making Kurt lose track of the time entirely. “Oh, my god, it's already 6:00. I'd better call Dad and tell him I'm going to be late.” He pulled out his phone and Blaine looked skeptical and then checked the time himself. After Kurt left a voice mail, Blaine said, “I can't believe we talked for four hours.” He hesitated, looked at Kurt, looked away, and then said, very quietly, “I'd like to see you again. If it isn't out of the question, that is.”

Kurt was thunderstruck. “Are you asking me for a date?”

“If...if that's what you'd like it to be. I mean, I want to see you again and would really like it to be a date, but if you don't want to...”

Kurt thought for another moment. This still could be a more elaborate revenge, as much as he wanted to believe that he and Blaine had made a genuine connection. Not only that, but his hand, leg, and face kept reminding him that this guy had more or less supervised the most painful bashing he'd ever experienced. “I'll let you know. But it won't be a date.”

Oh phew, I almost thought they were going to date so soon...

I'm really enjoying this. I also like that Mercedes knows what's going on with Kurt. It's refreshing. XD
