After the first boys' meeting, where Kurt lays out all his fabulous ideas and gets smacked down like the hand of God by the others, instead of going off and spying on the Warblers, he goes home and slits his wrists. That meeting, the casual dismissal of his suggestions by people he thought, although maybe not exactly his friends, would still never do that to him, on top of his father recovering from a severe heart attack and being his caretaker, the general bullying and the fact that Karofsky is making his life a living hell (this is before the confrontation and the kiss, though, remember), and the general homphobia of the system, where nobody seems to notice, and he's just so fucking tired and lonely all the time, finally broke his remaining strength and led to him attempting suicide as the only way out.
Luckily, Burt comes home and calls an ambulance before he can bleed to death. Everybody is very upset and hurting, whilst Kurt is all apathetic and too depressed to care anymore. He starts seing a therapist; up to author if he ends up on any medication or not. Burt, worried about his son going back to the toxic environment of McKinley, decides that the zero-tolerance no-harrassment policy at Dalton Acadamy is the best course to take in the wake of almost losing his only son, and sends him off to board there.
Where Wes or another Warbler is his roommate, and through them he meets the sweet Blaine Anderson, whom almost immediately begins to fall hard for Kurt, still recovering from nearly taking his own life, trying to keep most of his old friendship in tact, and coping with a shaken Burt that is trying his best to help his son but doesn't really know how.
They fall in love gently, slowly but surely, whilst overcoming Kurt's problems (and Blaine's, too; feel free to spread the angst out) with the help of the other Warblers (I would not at all be opposed to some sweet friendships between Kurt and them), therapy, and Burt. Happy ending, please ;3
(Also, in this AU, I don't want Burt and Carole to be together; they break up at some point prior or during the fic- I'm not a fan of Finn, or Carole (or Rachel, but that's getting off topic), really, so please, no Hudmels)

On a slightly more serious note, I feel that I should tell you that I do not like the way that Finn, Rachel and Mercedes treated him in season two, in fact I find most of ND's treatment of Kurt appalling almost all the time and not real friendships, aside from maybe Tina and Brittany, (I only really like them, Mike, Sam and Puck sometimes, oh and Lauren, she's epic) so feel free to completely break these relationships down- not in a character bashing way, more as the deeper issues come out, Kurt learns that he didn't have any true friends, especially during a crisis [see: Grilled Cheesus], not really, until Blaine, or he discovers the most unlikely people (Santana, maybe?) actually are, and if you include someone from ND being completely selfish, and Kurt saying the line 'My trying to kill myself has nothing to do with you; it is not about you, why do you think it's your fault, stop trying to make it about you when I'm the fucked up one', I will love you forever and forever, which I already do, but this will be for, like, infinity. And beyond.
