a/n: NaNoWriMo is now over and I have no idea where to go after this scene ends, so I'm going to leave it here. Sorry for the shortness-I seriously need to work on my endings.
Rachel came over that night with her presents for Finn and Kurt, then she rounded up Burt and Carole and sat them on the living room couch.
"What's this?" Burt asked with a confused smile.
"Mom, Burt," Finn said. "Me and Kurt wanted to do something special this year, so I hope you like it."
He and Kurt started off together, Kurt singing along softly, Finn's voice stronger of two, but when it came time for them to split, Kurt's voice rang out, high and clear. Rachel had played the video when they went to her house after school over and over, not just for Kurt's sake but for Finn's as well. She had a copy of the music, of course, but both boys seemed to learn so much better from listening to someone else sing it, especially Kurt, who couldn't read music, anyway.
Watching them, Burt's eyes filled with tears. Carole clutched at his arms and pressed the side of her face into his shoulder. When the last note died away and Burt tried to hug him, Kurt shied away. Burt had to watch as Carole was engulfed in Finn's arms while his stood there empty.
Kurt smiled at him apologetically and shrugged. One step at a time, Burt had to remind himself. One step at a time.

Wait, so you're just ending this because NaNo is over? I...well, okay, it's your fic so of course you can do with it what you choose but I feel like this ending came completely out of nowhere and a lot of dangling threads were dropped for no other reason than it's December 1. I knew you were trying to see how much you could write for NaNo but I had no idea you were just going to abruptly end the story when NaNo ended. I think if I had known that was your plan, I wouldn't have gotten invested in the first place. I'm so disappointed. :(

I'm sorry. The two just happened to coincide, as this is where I originally intended to end it, though, yeah, I'm not overly happy with it. I just didn't want to keep writing just to meet a word count and write something I didn't at all like.
I'm actually going to dig out some of my writing books and try to work something out. Right now, my mind is a complete and utter blank as to what to do next. If anybody has any ideas or advice about it, I'm all ears.
I'll probably wind up with a sequel to tie things up better.

I understand. Since a fic of this nature has the potential to become never-ending, I think ending with the boys singing makes sense. I do think there are a few threads that could be wrapped up. (As Kurt becomes more verbal, does he ever *say* that there are these triggers/men around? Does he ever become functional enough to work, say, in a design shop or at his father's shop? Even in the back? Does he eventually learn that sex is something that he can do on his terms because he wants to, not because he has to because someone else wants to?) I don't know if a full-blown sequel is necessary, but maybe vignettes or an epilogue would work. I really like the world you've built up, and I would love to see more of how Kurt grows and matures from this trauma.
(Edit. I'm not the anon from above. I'll let them answer, too since they may have something completely different to say.)

Thanks for the advice. I'm leaning towards a sequel at the moment, I have the seed of an idea, but I'm not sure quite yet. But, in any case, there will be more. Possibly with friendship Klaine.

Okay, I think I know how to do this. Think of Like an Animal as a dash for the finish line, something that went by far too fast and will probably be filled out a bit on FFN as I edit it. What's next will be something less rushed.

Okay, I've rewritten and rearranged the above parts into something I'm much more pleased with. I don't even think a sequel will be necessary-but there will still be more. I'm just going to keep going from part 39 and go up from there.
I'd recommend reading the FFN version as there are differences in how things play out:
