Continued to due character limits:
And I agree with Chirpingemu about the double standard. Take Shallow Hal. Jack Black is in no way conventionally attractive, yet it is a given that he can secure gorgeous women. Even though he is average looking at best, the movie needs him to be hypnotized to explain why he would even consider not pursuing only model-looking girls. Glee treats its female characters pretty badly already, and it also validates the Hollywood double standard. You have two women who are conventionally unattractive in N.D: Mercedes and Lauren, and I've covered how the show treats potential romance for them. The only conventionally unattractive male(besides Will, who I think is butt ugly, but some women apparently find attractive) is Artie. Artie is a nerdy looking kid in a wheelchair. Yet, he manages to score gorgeous girls like Tina and Brittany, even though he can be a misogynistic jerk. While Mercedes and Lauren are treated as almost un-dateable, it is expected that a male like Artie could get hot chicks with no problem, even though his personality is nothing to write home about.
