Spring walks and thoughts

Apr 24, 2015 09:06

A good day for cormorants, for me and, I guess, for other animals, birds and insects that inhabit this area and the anthill on the opposite side of the Inner Harbour:

Jungles (or something that looks like jungles) are not far from this place:

Water is around 12 degrees of Celsius and wetsuit is needed for swimming:

It happened yesterday that a short LJ discussion on Mormons subject pushed me to reread my Utah records of 2007-2008. I narrated there not only about my staying in sunny Utah but referred to different stories of my life in the USSR first, Yeltsin’s Russia then and sheared some thoughts about social transformation, my own one, on the way, as I formulated it, “from socialist Kuibyshev, via capitalist Samara to prosperous and globalized Vancouver”. I was so sure that Russian society, as a train, is staying on the straight railway that leads directly to the future and the post-communist society will be transformed into modern democratic one on this way.

Now it’s obvious that the railway was not straight at all but bent into steep turn to somewhere in the past that looks like Hitler’s Germany. I jumped from this train just in time, bought an airplane ticket and straightening the path flew directly to Vancouver.

Looking at a calendar this morning I remembered that 30 years ago Perestroika was lunched by Mikhail Gorbachev. We got new degrees of freedom and ability to plan and build our lives in our own style less depending on the governmental structures and bureaucrats. We got a chance to start living normal lives as people in Europe, North America and Australia. How it happened that Russians, not abstract ones, but my former friends and their children that still live in Russia voluntarily renounced their rights for normal life not only for themselves, but for their kids and grandkids? Year ago it was a shock and strong desire to defend them, present them as victims of the regime, justify them by blaming Putin, Kiselev’s distemper and other Goebbels type propaganda and stump orators in international crime and its nationwide support. Today I can state the fact that I was wrong. They missed the chance to rehab and be normal, Putin is their real leader and they are living and will live the life of their own choice. In 1917 normal Russians didn’t believe that Lenin is forever and were mistaken. Similar is happening now. It will not be a surprise for me if such person as Rogozin or even Kadyrov will replace Putin in the future and the Russian World will exist during next 70 years.

Okay, I am trying do not think much on this subject therefore let’s return to walk without thoughts :) The right place to do such turn in the walk is on my way and I reached a state of thoughtlessness here:

In April, on April 20 worldwide known as 4/20 in particular, bike and beer can be combined with the weed:

And I continue my way without thoughts now. Korean guy looks like got a drag:

Spirits are everywhere:

Totems are garish, maybe dressed up for 4/20:

There is no need to explain what this is for those who are high enough:

For others:

Russian (with clear Ukrainian/South Russian accent) guys occupied a place for recreational activities:

Something is going wrong with performance scenario and they are discussing a problem:

This girl looks like a soloist and do not participate in technical issues resolving:

Spectators gather:

But I continue my walk looking around, inexplicably seeing more girls than guys:

Like this:

Or even this:

Okay, guys were on my way too, for example, Akio, Japanese tourist, who travels with his owl and put the bird on his own postcards:

One pic with the bird we made together:

Smile for me from this oriental beauty:

Enough girls, let’s look at planes:

Or boats:

So many of them around:

It’s time to go home and leave a track in my LJ :)

downtown, harbour, city, westcoast life, spring, cultural values, national identity, forest, totem, immigration, boat
