I discovered this webtoon during one of those manga drought days and I really needed something to read. Initially I completely ignored this manga. I mean the summary didn't appeal to me. Not a bit. In fact, did someone edit the summary? I thought it sounded a little too shounen for my liking not to mention it seemed like those typical fight-fight-AND-fight kind of manga webtoon. Anyways, after reading too many amateurish shoujo manga, I just couldn't take it. So I went for a webtoon. Tower of God.

Turns out my desperation has led me to a good, alright, very good webtoon. Baam, the clueless newbie in the Tower of God, fighting only to follow his benefactor/love interest/only friend into the Tower. His kind disposition affected most around him, especially Koon I believe. From that calculative and manipulative cold demeanour he was taught to and did possess, he started to learn how to care for people around him, despite the fact that he does know that eventually there can only be one winner. Mans.

I really liked how the characters were developed in ToG. Everyone in the tower has a story to tell, some kind of reason to keep them going amidst all the desperation and bloody stuff they are subjected to. Furthermore, there are lots to develop in the story, things like how did the tower come to be, who else wields power in the tower, how many more obstacles/enemies/allies will Baam meet, will Lahel still be the same as the one Baam knows? etc. And I think the author is not afraid of taking chapters out to develop the story. It may be a bit irritating especially if it is in the midst of an intense fight or something, but in my opinion, in a larger scheme of things, it wouldn't hurt.

Another thing: there is humor amidst all the fighting. There are comic relief characters which prevents the story from going down the too dark side.

ToG was neither a webtoon that kept me pining all week for more nor was it a webtoon that I would forget. As all things should be done with moderation, ToG is a webtoon that can appeal to most audiences and strikes a balance between creating giant cliffhangers and having none at all. I would recommend it to 07-ghost and Double Arts fans, though the bishie count in ToG seems to a bit lesser. The colour however does boost ToG.
