Notes from someone reading a 4th ed d and d book.

While, I am sure that alot of my gripes are just increased due to my head being all fluffy and stuffy. But I am trying to read Open Grave - Secrets of the Undead. Its.....interesting. Alot of absolute rubbish. And some actual neat ideas for them although sifting threw it was a chore. I guess I am still burned by them trashing all the other rich ideas from earlier edition for example the undead are no longer powered by the Negative Material Plane but something called the animus(sp?), its basicly this magical stuff based off of life force (not the movie! :P). And I dunno. Its just....missing on alot of points. I guess what also bothers me is that put a sizeable amount of sample adventures in a hardcover book. I don't mind a few but a few not a bunch. Although I did like the idea (finally) of having good undead. There was a little blurb at the bottom of one of the pages where it was giving an example of a party encounter with a horde of zombies, they are starting to engage them and a man in full armor comes outta nowhere and helps the party kill off the zombie hoard and the next morning they realize that the person who helped them is an undead paladin. Which I think is just cool and quite frankly its about time that there are also good undead. I forgot who I was having the conversation with but I thought it makes sense, cause what happens to a knight who is on a holy quest and gets killed. That's it? It never made sense to me. Why can't a character be so driven by his quest that he tries to complete the quest even after his death.

I was going to finish up that I am rather not happy with them eliminating the whole Negative Matieral Plane connection. And I still fell that way. Although they do have a presence on the Astral Plane where they 'sail' on boats attacking other people. Which is just a fun idea. See how the Githyanki like that. Lol. Although that might mean that they too can become zombies hmmm...now that's a good idea!

I dunno, as you can probably tell. Its a hit or miss book.

Oh, and if this post isn't really followable, it took me like 4 hours to make this post (I am uber sick and stuff), heh.
