Fullmetal Alchemist links and recs

Jun 22, 2010 12:00

Hi there, for those of you who are following Transient, thank you. The completed story will have about 16 chapters. It is finished and only needs to be polished before I post it. As a courtesy to those of you on my friends list who are being spammed to death by fic from a fandom you've never heard of, I have some links and recs for you (if you would like)...

Fullmetal Alchemist is a manga written by Hiromu Arakawa that was adapted into an anime series in 2003, a film in 2005 and a second anime series in 2009. The first anime was put into production before the manga series was completed. So there are two anime series' that have the same beginning, but very different endings. Talk about parallel universes.

You can read the Fullmetal Alchemist manga here at onemanga.com. The story is now complete, with 108 chapters in all.

I don't have any good links for episodes of the first anime, but you can watch episodes of the second anime online here at Funimation's website. Most are in Japanese with subtitles, but Funimation is starting to post the dubbed versions as well.

Fandom recs:

Although I am strictly a gen writer please be aware that many of these fanworks contain slash, i.e. male/male relationships. Please heed the authors' warnings.

Beautiful Fiction
Truths-in-lies is a prolific slash author who writes beautifully. Mostly Roy/Ed and a few gen fics.

Rainjoy's Writing
Another prolific and talented author. Again, mostly Roy/Ed. Some very good romance and angst in her memories. Everything she writes is good.

Skydark
Let's hear it for more Roy/Ed! I seem to have a theme going here. Okay, there are several other pairings here, but be warned, lots of NC-17 fics as well. I love the way this author writes dialogue, very natural, very humorous and the kind of angst that you can sink your teeth into.

Branch
One of those fandom staples. Very well-kept and organized archive. I haven't read much of her work, but only because I don't have the time.

Tir-Synni
One of the first authors that I read in this fandom and the author of "Sick Leave", which is Roy/Ed hurt/comfort at its best.

Scimitar Smile
This archive was closed for renovations as of this posting but I am linking it anyway in the hopes that it will reopen soon. This is the best and most complete multi-author FMA fanfiction site that I have seen.

Fleeting Fancies
Not an author but a list of recs, both art and fanfiction. Well-organized but several of the links are no longer working. Check out Deviant Art as well for some works by very talented artists.

Secret Garden
Not fic. Scanlations of doujinshi. Don't know what doujinshi is? Wikipedia can help! Doujinshi is one of the best things about being a fan of a Japanese series, be it manga or anime. Not all doujinshi are slash, but a good portion of them are. HEED THE WARNINGS! This stuff isn't what you would call "work safe".

There are many more fanworks in this fandom worth checking out, unfortunately I don't have time to list them all. If you are already an FMA fan and are reading this, please reply with your own links and suggestions. I'm always on the lookout for good authors and artwork. :)

Thank you for reading this post. I hope that you enjoy the rest of Transient.
