Alright, I guess I'll be jumping on the trendy bandwagon, now:
Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Draco/Harry icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
-I want two copies of Gentle Giant's "The Power and the Glory," with the extra recording of the song"The Power and the Glory" on it (the only ones I can find now have 8 tracks; this one has 9). Why? Well, I borrowed this album from my father. He specifically told me not to bring it to school, because it was imported from Russia, and on top of that, it was a special promo CD, etc. etc., that is hard to find. So, the one day I bring it? My CD player is stolen. There were plenty of times during the day that I had a chance to use my CD player (and thus, check up on it, making sure I knew where it was) throughout the day. But that's a different story. My point is, I can't find the mother-fucker yet, and it's only a matter of time before my father notices. The second copy? I want one for myself. It's one of my favorite albums...ever.
-Wall clocks. All different kinds. Tons of them. Or alarm clocks...Or a cool watch.
-A turtlenecked, long-sleeved, almost-down-to-my-knees-but-not-quite dress. Or other dresses. I love dresses.
-a job that earns at least $100 per week. At my age, that's pretty hard, but not impossible.
-I'm on a plateau, too, Melissa! I want to lose at least 15 more pounds.
-A print of R.S. Connett's "Sex Machine," found on the online store at
http://www.vomitus.com/ or on ebay.
-Picture planes, viewfinders, charcoal pencils, graphite sticks, etc. There's a book that I have which is helping me with my shading, depth, etc., and I can't go any further until I have certain art supplies that I just never remember to get, or even know where to find.
-I wish I were a completely uninhibited artist, with complete fluency in my work. I have a natural sense of negative space, proportion, etc., but I wish I could start finishing what I start, and work on my shading, etc. (see above)
-I need more jeans. Whenever I looks for jeans, they never fit right, except when they're non-stretch ones, from the Gap outlet in Woodbury Commons, but usually, they're way too expensive, and sort of boring. I dont know, I just want jeans that fit me like that, but with neat pockets and things like that. That would own.
-I want the time, motivation, and space to practice my flute. No, better yet, I wish that I were a "fluent" player.
Okay, I know it says only 10 things, but after doing this, I thought of more things. So there.
-I wish they would come out with another Zelda game. I'm kind of sick of defeating Ganondorf for the 543896753289 time.
-I wish my eyes would stop getting so bad. I mean, I used to have perfect vision, but I don't know. I have like, chronic dry eyes, and am constantly blinking, and now...I don't know if it's just me, but on the overheads in biology, my eyes can't quite focus on them. I don't know, I just don't see quite the way I used to.
-I wish I weren't so fucking OCD all of the time. I also wish I would stop having so many monodyslexic moments, too.
-I wish I had some sort of odd talent. Like, something great. I'm not sure what I'd want it to be, but I just wish I had something that I was considered to be the "best"at, or something that I was good at that no one has ever really given thought to before.
-I, too, wish I had my own little portable horn player. Named Melissa. With a little ripcord, so whenever you pull the cord, it says little catchphrases like, "{sniff sniff} VAGINA!" and "Hold on, ladies...just, first, let me pop a Levitra."
-I wish I would stop being the sort of person who makes a wishlist with the intentions of being straightforward and to the point in their wishes, but only winds up rambling and elaborating on every tiny little detail way too much.
-Oh, and a pair of beige, knee-high, lace up, high-heeled boots.
