Your donations are appreciated and went a long way! I need to get a picture up on his page before the fundraiser ends.
I was listening to This American Life on NPR, and Ira rebroadcasted a BBC program on William Borroughs. The only Borroughs I've read is Edgar Rice, but Ira always has an interesting show, so I listed. It was narrated by Iggy Pop. Now I know Iggy is American, but I always expect an English accent - don't know why.
Anyway Iggy did a fantastic job. He wasn't just a narrator, but a commentor on his narration and part of the story. I'm not sure how I feel about Borroughs, even after the presentation (William that is, I like Edgar Rice's pulp fiction). But the show really sucked me in.
U2's lyrics 'every artist is a cannibal, every poet is a thief, all kill their inspiration and sing about their grief' could have been written for Borroughs. Who knows, maybe it was since tons of musicians were influenced by him.
Also, I now snicker like a schoolgirl when Steely Dan comes on the radio.
