There have been far too many people on my flist suffering from awful medical conditions lately, and I wish I could reach out and give real life hugs.
This has gotten me to thinking about my own past illness and chemo treatment. We all know the horrible, no good, very bad things chemo does, but in additional to hearing loss, memory loss, tinnitus, screwed up kidneys, etc. it also did some things to me I didn't expect.
It cured my carpel tunnel. I was scheduled to have the wrist procedure done, but a slightly larger surgery came up. I haven't had a problem with it again in 8 years.
It cured my allergies. I had a series of allergy shots about 15 years ago, and it was getting really bad again before chemo. I was planning on another series, but again the chemo took my symptoms away and they've stayed away. Who knows, maybe the cisplatin melted my sinuses.
It 'cured' my silver hair. I'd been dyeing my hair since I was 35 or so because it started to come in silver very heavily. When my hair grew back after chemo, it grew back the same old color (mousy brown) and curly. The curls went away, but the color stayed. Only now, about 8 years after sprouting hair again, am I starting to see a little silver, and the hairs are fine textured, not scary, old man eyebrow hairs like before.
Oh, and *knock on wood* it killed my residual osteosarcoma. No fate, that's not me tempting you. Nothing to see, move along.
Also thank you
