Oh dear! Its been since February since I posted to Livejournal, and at least two months since I regularly read my friends page!  I've been so delinquent!!

All I can say in my own defense is that from February to mid-May I was using all my spare energy  and time (and all of my capacity for anxiety, fear, stress, grief, anger, love) on clearing out ( Read more... )

I bought the DVD, and also rooted up a (very vintage) video...which they also have at the library, called non-impact aerobics. Its very...aerobic class-y compared to the modern DVD, but those two things seem to be all that is in print for the public, and the library only has the old one. I'd like to take a class at the Y, I see they have nia classes now. Maybe in the fall.

As for what its like, its a combination of modern dancing (complete with improvisation), aerobics, and martial arts, with a focus on falling in love with the feeling of moving your body. I like it a lot. You sure work up a sweat!

But I felt more comfortable with the improv parts and the just plain goofy parts after I "met" Gabrielle Roth; she has a series of CD's and DVD's...I was able to download some from the library website. I absolutely LOVE "Power Wave" if you can download it and see it/do it. Very beautiful and inspiring! And you can get the soundtrack for that on CD, which is nice too.

Anyhow, after I encountered G.R., when I went back to my nia DVD I liked it even better than I had before. I'm nervous about signing up for a class; what if I don't like the instructor's style? But I think still...it would be nice. It would seem that you just can't get much nia without signing up for a class.
