< Act 2-15 >
[We see the illustration from before of Felius in his pilot outfit lying on the ground as a girl kneels next to him and a woman slashes at a bunch of monsters. It goes from sepia to its full colors.]
Melissa: Such power--this weapon is incredible!
Clarissa: Mom? Mom?!
Melissa: It's all right, dear! Just stay close to Mommy, okay?
Clarissa: Okay...
[Melissa becomes Yulia in Felius' sight, in the same position with Iskender Bey in her hands.]
Mysterious Boy: Yu...Yulia?!
[She reverts to Melissa.]
Clarissa: Mom! He just said something!
Melissa: Did we wake him? I guess it can't be easy to sleep with all of this ruckus, huh?
Melissa: Well, I'll just tidy up here, and then let's have some supper together.
Clarissa: Okay!
Mysterious Young Man: ...
Mysterious Young Man: No...? That...that isn't...Yulia...?
Mysterious Young Man: ...
Mysterious Young Man: ...
Mysterious Young Man: Is...kender...Bey... That glow...
[The scene switches to a rocky hillside. A cut-in shows the three of them sitting around a campfire at night.]
Melissa: I see... Your name is Felius, huh?
Melissa: So you'll tell us your name, but you still won't tell us where you came from?
Felius: ...
Melissa: Well, that's fine. Didn't mean to push you. Everyone has things they don't like to talk about, right?
Felius: ...
Melissa: But if you're thinking that playing the silent type will make you popular with the ladies, you might want to reconsider that.
Felius: No, that...that's not my intention at all!
[Melissa smiles.]
Melissa: Ah, finally a well-spoken answer. At least now we know you're not a halfwit.
[Felius looks down.]
Felius: ...
Melissa: I get that you're not much of a talker, but there's so many things I want to ask...
Melissa: ...
Melissa: Like this weapon. I could tell how important it was to you from the way you were holding it, but under the circumstances, I figured you wouldn't mind if I gave it a try.
[A cut-in shows Iskender Bey.]
Melissa: Its power is unbelievable, but... What in blazes is it?
Felius: How can you wield Iskender Bey if you're not Yulia?
[Melissa scratches the back of her head.]
Melissa: Hmm... Answering a question with another question, huh?
Felius: Sorry.
Melissa: Don't worry about it. At least now I know the name of this thing, now. Iskender Bey, huh?
Felius: ...
Felius: Iskender Bey has a safety device that prevents it from being used by anyone other than its legitimate owner.
Felius: Yulia is the only person who should be able to use it.
Melissa: A weapon that chooses its user? That sounds a lot like my daughter's Strahl Gewehr.
Felius: Strahl Gewehr?
Melissa: We got mixed up in something--it's a long story--and through some strange twist of fate, Clarissa ended up with it.
[Clarissa shows him Strahl Gewehr.]
Clarissa: Here, take a look!
Felius: ...
Melissa: The name Strahl Gewehr is inscribed on it in a long-dead language. I know enough to pronounce it, but I can't find any sources on what it might mean.
Melissa: This thing's been an enigma from the first time I laid eyes on it.
Melissa: Sometimes it gives off a mysterious glow...but only when she's holding it.
Felius: Isn't it dangerous?
Clarissa: No way! The light felt good. It was warm!
Melissa: See?
Felius: ...
Melissa: Back to Iskender Bey...
Melissa: I wish I could explain why I was able to wield it, but I can't. Honestly, I've never touched it or even seen it before today.
Felius: ...Huh...
Melissa: So Iskender Bey belongs to this Yulia person?
Melissa: Here, take it back. Sounds like it's important to you, too.
Felius: ...
Felius: No... I want you to have it.
[Melissa's mouth forms an 'o'.]
Melissa: Why...?
Felius: Iskender Bey has recognized you as its owner. So it belongs to you now.
Melissa: What?! I don't know anything about it! It could be dangerous!
Felius: But look at what you were able to do with it earlier! It has the power to protect.
Clarissa: ...Mom...
Melissa: The power to...protect?
Felius: Watching you fight... It left me convinced that you want to protect the same things that Yulia did.
Felius: ...
Felius: So I want to entrust Iskender Bey to you...for her sake.
Melissa: ...
Melissa: To be honest, I don't know what to make of any of this, but when you put it that way, I couldn't possibly refuse, now could I?
[She smirks.]
Melissa: All right, I'll hold onto Iskender Bey for you. But under one condition.
Felius: Anything I can do for you, I will.
Melissa: Felius, I want you to join us on our journey.
Felius: Wha--?!
Melissa: Is that so strange? I'm just a mother traveling with her daughter, and you've pushed this strange weapon on me.
Melissa: Wouldn't a righteous man want to come along, just in case something unforeseen happened?
Felius: But I...I'm not supposed to be here at all...
Melissa: Don't be so wishy-washy, Felius. Is there somewhere else you ARE supposed to be?
Felius: ...
Melissa: That settles it! And I was just thinking about how nice it would be to have a man around, too...
[The image turns sepia and the screen turns black.]
Clarissa: Nnnnnngh...
Felius... Mother... ...Wait, where am I...?
[Clarissa regains her bearings and stands up, finding herself in a lower level of the abbey ruins. The lava pit takes up a lot more space and there are warp crests and switches strewn across the room.]
Clarissa: ...
[She falls to her knees again.]
Clarissa: Aggh, that hurts...
[She stands up after a moment and looks around.]
Clarissa: Whew... Well, at least I can still move...
Clarissa: But where am I now...? This must be an even deeper level...
I have to let everyone know I'm all right. I don't want them to get worried again...
[She steps towards the door and stops.]
Clarissa: But that's not going to happen until I do something about this gate, I suppose.
[She turns to look across the room.]
Clarissa: Hopefully lighting up all the switches will do the trick... I'd better hurry, though. It's getting kind of hard to breathe in here.
But what in the world is with this abbey, anyway? If nothing else, it reflects its mistress's personality, that's for sure...
=D.E.R.=
Clarissa: ...
Clarissa: ...
Clarissa: ...
Clarissa: Strahl Gewehr... Will you guide me...?
[The gate opens when all the switches have been activated and the mission ends. Clarissa arrives at a room similar to the one she was in with the others before the bridge collapsed.]
Clarissa: I've been walking around and around, but I still haven't noticed any way back up...
Clarissa: I hope I run into the others soon. I'm sure they're worried about me.
[She turns and steps toward an opened gateway.]
Clarissa: Hmm? What's this pathway lead to...? I think there's someone there... That could only be--!
Clarissa: Let's have a look!
[She walks in. An illustration shows Clarissa arriving at the cell, where the girl in the dress is standing behind the bars, hands folded in front of her.]
Clarissa: When I saw the light spilling into the tunnel, I thought this is what I'd find, but I...I still can't believe...
[Clarissa stops in front of her and takes off her hat to let her hair down.]
Blonde-Haired Girl: Edna told me all about you, but I had no idea... We're not just similar, we're...identical...
[An illustration shows a closeup on their faces as they stare at each other. The girl in the dress is reaching a hand up through the bars to touch Clarissa's face.]
Clarissa: Yeah... It's just like looking into a mirror...
Blonde-Haired Girl: Well, that simplifies things. At least I don't need to wonder who you are.
Clarissa: My name is Clarissa Arwin. I came here to rescue you, Your Highness.
Blonde-Haired Girl: And though you had no obligation to do so, you've been fighting in my stead, shouldering the weight of Elesius's future.
Blonde-Haired Girl: I owe you a great debt for what you've done for Elesius. Thank you.
Clarissa: Oh, Your Highness, that's not necessary... I...I'm unworthy of, uh...
Blonde-Haired Girl: Please, dispense with the formality. To look at my own face and hear it speak as if it were beneath me... It's much too surreal.
Clarissa: Oh... Sorry about that.
Blonde-Haired Girl: Edna hides the cell key under that vase. Would you be so kind...?
Clarissa: Yes, of course!
[The screen turns black as the keys jingle and the cell is opened. She steps out of the cell to rejoin Clarissa, who has put her hat back on.]
Clarissa: We should hurry. I want to make sure everyone knows that we're all right, and besides, there might be guards lurking somewhere.
Blonde-Haired Girl: You're right, but... Just a moment...
[She leaves and comes back a second later, holding up a dagger.]
Blonde-Haired Girl: A little something Edna left behind.
Blonde-Haired Girl: I've never been good with court etiquette or feminine grace, but when it comes to blades, I can hold my own. Myself, at least, I can protect.
Blonde-Haired Girl: Well then, Clarissa. Shall we go?
Clarissa: Yes, Your Highness!
[They make their way through the dungeon and encounter monsters. They fight back-to-back as Clarissa fires and the girl slashes through monsters with her dagger.]
Blonde-Haired Girl: There are summoning traps everywhere! I should have expected as much from Edna...
[The girl then climbs up a ladder as Clarissa covers her. She makes it up and looks down at Clarissa.]
Blonde-Haired Girl: I can feel a draft coming from up here... We must be near the exit! Quickly, climb up!
Clarissa: I'm coming!
[The ladder blinks and then vanishes.]
Clarissa: Wha--?!
Blonde-Haired Girl: More of Edna's tricks?
[The ground rumbles.]
Clarissa: --?!
Blonde-Haired Girl: I thought this was the escape route...but it's a trap!
[They turn to see lava flooding in their direction.]
Clarissa: That's...lava...
Blonde-Haired Girl: --!
[The screen fades to black and the player is prompted to save.]
