I'M ON A ROLL GUYS

< Act 1-8 >

[Levin stands before Clarissa and Labyrinthia, looking uncomfortable.]

Levin: Your Highness...
Levin: I failed to mobilize the Royal Knights, so this is the one and only body I have to pledge to your cause...
Labyrinthia: Captain Eisen couldn't be budged...?
Levin: I knew Father had the mind of an ox, but I never knew he could be *this* stubborn...
Labyrinthia: No, Levin, Captain Eisen's decision was the right one.
Labyrinthia: The Royal Knights cannot act without the express orders of His Majesty.
Labyrinthia: And besides...
Labyrinthia: I believe that Captain Eisen may be fighting beside us all the same.
Labyrinthia: He most likely felt that he couldn't afford to leave his own battlefield.
Levin: ...

[Clarissa smiles.]

Clarissa: I'm more than happy just to have you on board, Levin.
Levin: Your Highness... I no longer have the backing of House Brenton. I'm just plain "Levin" now.

[He looks determined.]

Levin: But nonetheless, I will fight with the strength of a thousand men!
Levin: I may have failed Your Highness in my task to secure support of the Knights, but in their stead I pledge my full potential!

[Clarissa's smile widens as if she's laughing.]

Clarissa: I look forward to fighting beside you.

[Levin's head shrinks back into his shoulders and he blushes a little.]

Levin: Th-thank you, your Highness!

[Tony comes up in between them.]

Tony: ...

[Labyrinthia brings her hand to her chin.]

Labyrinthia: (And yet again I find Tony staring at Clarissa, enthralled...)
Labyrinthia: (The way he gazes at her, it's almost as though he has a special place in his heart for her... Or is it just my imagination?

[She hangs her head.]

Labyrinthia: (Perhaps I simply cannot bear to acknowledge what's happening between them... That I'm slowly being replaced as his mistress...)
Clarissa: There is one other thing...
Clarissa: You needn't sweeten your words around me, Levin.
You lament the state of Elesius as much as I, and share the same hopes for its future. That should make us friends.
Levin: Your...Your Highness, I...I'm unworthy of the kindness of your words! But I'll strive to work hard to do my best and earn Your Highness's friendship!

[Clarissa looks a little sheepish.]

Clarissa: I just said that you didn't need to talk that way...
Labyrinthia: ...

[She brings her hand to her chin again.]

Labyrinthia: I have a proposal, Your Highness...

[Clarissa turns to look at her.]

Labyrinthia: We can't count on the support of the Royal Knights, and our own numbers are few. I believe it is time we stepped up our campaign.
Labyrinthia: The Martial Guardsmen we encountered earlier spoke of a Fort Molasar. Perhaps we should go on the attack, and seize the fort...?
Clarissa: You always propose the most drastic of measures in the most casual of tones...
Labyrinthia: With their troops having battled us here, there can't be many left holding the fort.
Furthermore, toppling it would prevent the Guard from mounting attacks against the towns in this area after we move on.

[Levin puts a hand to his chest.]

Levin: Fort Molasar isn't far from here! If we act before they can regroup, we can take it even with out current numbers!
Clarissa: Very well, then. Prepare to change course to Fort Molasar! Let's bring the battle to the Martial Guard's home ground!

[On the world map, two new locations appear while all the links are restored, save for the one leading to the now destroyed Shrine. From the Path, a new location named West Wind Guidepost is marked with a yellow !. The group enters the location and Levin speaks to Clarissa and Labyrinthia there.]

Levin: By the way, Your Highness... Does our liberation army have a name?

[Clarissa looks shocked.]

Clarissa: What? We're a "liberation army" now?!
Levin: That's right! A magnificent liberation army!
Levin: Wouldn't it be much more convenient if we had a name to call it by?
Levin: And besides--

[He folds his hands behind his head.]

Levin: A good symbolic name would inspire those who seek liberation to rally under our banner!

[Clarissa's mouth makes an 'o'.]

Clarissa: Yes, I suppose you have a point there...

[Levin places his hand to his chest.]

Levin: See? That's a great reason, right? It's not just because a good name would make us seem all suave and mysterious or anything!
Clarissa: ...
Clarissa: If you feel that strongly about it, why don't we leave the name up to you?
Levin: Really?! To be honest, I've been secretly pondering the matter for some time now...
Levin: I have determined that there is but one worthy candidate: Chevalet Blanc! What do you think, Your Highness?

[Clarissa brings a finger to her cheek.]

Clarissa: ...Chevalet Blanc...?
Clarissa: ...
Clarissa: ...Hmm...
Clarissa: Well, knowing you, I figured you'd come up with a name that sounded more manly and powerful...
Clarissa: Like something with the word "Vanguard" in it...

[Levin looks disappointed.]

Levin: I was sure you'd like it...
Labyrinthia: You see, in our founding legend, Chevalet Blanc was the name of the glorious army led by the first Princess Medium of Elesius.
Labyrinthia: But this happened long ago in the old capital of Schnell, which is now abandoned...
Levin: Whoa, give it a rest, teach! Surely the princess knows the founding legends of her own country?
Labyrinthia: Oh! Uh...right!
Clarissa: Of...of course I know them!
Clarissa & Labyrinthia: Hah! Hah hah hah! Uh...
Levin: Why do I get the feeling you two are hiding something from me...
Clarissa: No, that's not the case at all!
Clarissa: So, Chevalet Blanc... What a perfect name! Great job, Levin, thanks so much!
Levin: ...

[He puts his hands behind his head again, looking smug.]

Levin: Hmph, you're acting like you just dodged a bullet...

[Back on the map, a link forms to Fort Molasar, marked with a red !.

-Port Atraige-

(Shop)
Merchant Olrof: Welcome to my shop. Ah...yes, I know you. Thank you for helping me earlier.
Merchant Olrof (Talk): I knew you were Lady Alexia all along...
Merchant Olrof: I'm sure you had very good reason to stay in hiding for so long... Oh, but I really should keep my nose out of other people's business...
Merchant Olrof: It's just, well, you wouldn't believe how much Elesius has changed in just this past year...
---
Store-Minder Vitalie: So you're the group that saved the boss from the Martial Guard, then? You're stronger than you look, I'll say that much...
Store-Minder Vitalie: He may not be anyone spectacular, but he's the only uncle I've ever known... I owe you one.
---
Connie the Drifter: Wow...you're the princess of Elesius? Well, huh. So that means...
Connie the Drifter: ...Wait, say what?! You, a princess?! Are you pullin' my leg or somethin'?!
Connie the Drifter: Err, pardon me! I mean, uh, is this the truth, Your Majesty, milady?!

(Synth. Shop)
Mixing Girl: Hey, did you hear about the princess? She was supposed to be dead, but she's back now, and she's fighting against our oppressors!
Mixing Girl: I thought this kind of thing only happened in fairy tales! What on earth could be in store for us next? Ooh, it's just all so exciting!
---
Port Worker: Day after day, unloading cargo... It's not that my work doesn't fulfill me, but I wouldn't mind leaving this port someday.
Port Worker: I mean, I could just hoist myself onboard the next ship that comes in...it'd be a whole new life for me. You never know.

(Bar)
Carefree Bartender: Welcome. We're starting to get more Drifters in search of work around the port... I wonder what happened?
Carefree Bartender (Talk): Actually, you know the criminal everyone in Atraige was talking about the other day?
Carefree Bartender: Well, apparently she busted through the checkpoint and got away scot-free.
Carefree Bartender: The rumors say she's an older woman who travels with a white beast that follows her every order...
Carefree Bartender: If she can plow through the Martial Guard with a single swipe of her arm...why, an orc would be knee-high to her!
---
Battle Fanatic: If you want an advantage in battle, keep a close eye on the enemy units' resistances against the elements--earth, water, fire and wind.
Battle Fanatic: If there's a plus sign by an elemental resistance, the damage that attacks of that element can deal will be reduced by that percentage.
Battle Fanatic: If damage to an enemy is displayed in gray, you'd better check to see if the element of your attack is hampering its performance.
Battle Fanatic: On the other hand, if there's a minus sign by an elemental resistance, that means the unit has a weakness against that particular element.
Battle Fanatic: You'll know you're hitting him where it hurts if the resulting damage is displayed in orange.
Battle Fanatic: So keep that in mind. If you've got a Spellcaster, have him use elemental attacks to hit the enemy's weak attributes for more damage.
Battle Fanatic: Make it a habit to check all enemy units' attribute resistances before each battle begins. A little extra knowledge can go a long way.

(Outskirts)
Heinz the Drifter: You ever stopped to think about how ARMs work? I have. It's pretty strange, isn't it?
Heinz the Drifter: I mean, you access an ARM, and then all of a sudden you know how to fight as all these other classes?
Heinz the Drifter: ...That there is some pretty weird stuff, my friend. Not that I'm complaining...
---
Foreign Merchant: (If I took advantage of this civil strife and got in with the kingdom's weapon merchant, I could probably make a killing...)
Foreign Merchant: (I bet I could sell Slayheim firearms at a pretty hefty margin around here...)
Foreign Merchant: ...Err, did I say that out loud? Never mind me, I was just daydreaming!
---
Gossip Girl: "You've got a secret, don't you, ma'am? Girls with secrets are twice as charming..."
Gossip Girl: ...is what the lady across the street said!

-Poliasha-

(Shop)
Shopkeeper Brown: I'm glad you're back safe. If you need anything, please let me know.
Shopkeeper Brown (Talk): My sympathies are with you... The Council's betrayal must have been terribly painful. Just remember that Poliasha will always be on the royals' side.
---
Foreign Traveler: So you're a princess, yet the kingdom's after your life?
Foreign Traveler: But isn't the Council of Elder Statesmen part of the royal government? What the heck are they thinking?!

(Synth. Shop)
Alejandro: I heard that bandits and other unsavory types are taking advantage of the Guard's tyranny to build their ranks across the land.
Alejandro: And here we thought the Martial Gurd was here to clamp down on those criminals...

(Inn)
Ellen: Welcome back. You've had quite an experience, hmm?
Ellen: Well, don't you worry about anything right now. Just try to get some rest. I've got some hot soup waitin' for all of you.
---
Jim the Drunk: Princess! Right when you felt that premonition at the Guardian Shrine, I felt Filgaia itself begin to tremble!
Jim the Drunk: ...No, no, I promise you I wasn't staggering around inebriated or anything...
Jim the Drunk: What? Why're you looking at me like that? C'mon, you don't you believe me?!
---
Krelia: Oh...that's terrible, what you saw at the Guardian Shrine...
Krelia: But at least you are still safe, Princess. There's more than one shrine in the kingdom, and ours can always be rebuilt in time.

(Plaza)
Brandon: ...So they sprung a trap on you after all...
Brandon: I can't believe it. Even royalty means nothing to them, much less the plight of their citizens...
---
Fellman: When I think about what would happen if our Alexia disappeared again, I get so worried I can hardly sleep at night!
Fellman: ...Please, Princess. You mustn't be doing all these dangerous things!
Fellman: ...
Fellman: I'm sorry... I know I'm being selfish...

[At the fort, the party rushes in. One of the guardsmen turns around to see them.]

Martial Guardsman Quaid: Whoa, whoa, whoa! I didn't hear anything about an invading party! What's the watch doing out there?!

[A Secutor runs up to them.]

Martial Guard Corporal Magnus: ...Stay calm!
No matter what adversity comes, no matter what foe threatens us, just stay calm and do as you've been trained!
Martial Guardsman Quaid: You're talking about..."the plan"?
Martial Guard Corporal Magnus: Of course I am!! First off, sap their forces as much as possible!
You don't need to defeat them... Just rob them of their energy--bit by bit, if necessary!
Martial Guardsman Quaid: ANd when the force is well and battered...

[Magnus walks closer and draws his sword.]

Martial Guard Corporal Magnus: ...Then I will strike the final blow!
Martial Guardsman Quaid: Your classic plan of action, Corporal... And with your dark sword, we can make it happen!
Martial Guard Corporal Magnus: I'm not pleased with the idea of unleashing our full power to quell this pack of rabble-rousers...but we cannot afford to lose this stronghold.

=D.E.R.=

Labyrinthia: Let's take a look at the Tactical Map we'll be fighting on.
Labyrinthia: We'll be starting here...
Labyrinthia: And the enemy line looks like this.
Labyrinthia: The enemy will attempt to drain us of our VP (Vitality Points)...and that makes our plan of action obvious.
Labyrinthia: We'll need to prepare a reliable method to recover VP, and take the enemy leader out as quickly as possible.
Labyrinthia: It'll be important to avoid the main path and use whatever shortcuts we can find to strike at the heart of the enemy.
Labyrinthia: Study the Tactical Map carefully and move your units so they make it to the leader quickly and efficiently.

Martial Guard Corporal Magnus: Come before me, my friends!
Allow the sheen of my demonic sword to become the final memory of your mortal lives!

[The battle ends when Magnus is defeated.]

-Fort Molasar: Strategy Room-

[Magnus stands before Clarissa and Labyrinthia.]

Martial Guard Corporal Magnus: Dammit! To think we were felled by a little girl...
Martial Guard Corporal Magnus: Go on, finish me! I refuse to live with the shame of defeat! I refuse to endure the disgrace of capture!
Martial Guard Corporal Magnus: Come on already! Surely you attacked us with the resolve to kill or be killed?!
Clarissa: ...
Clarissa: Whether you're killing or being killed, don't assume death will so easily absolve you of your crimes.
Clarissa: The burdens that you bear cannot be tossed away so easily!
Martial Guard Corporal Magnus: Grr...!
Clarissa: There's something I want you to do.
Clarissa: You're familiar with the Council of Elder Statesmen, I assume? I have a message for their chairman, Charlton.
Clarissa: ...
Clarissa: To you false regents who have disgraced your offices--listen well.
Clarissa: You have stolen the peaceful lives of our people and the future of our nation.
Clarissa: In order to return these liberties to their legitimate owners, we of the Elesius Liberation Army, Chevalet Blanc--
Clarissa: Hereby declare war against you!
Martial Guard Corporal Magnus: What?! A pack of rebels declaring war against an entire nation?
Clarissa: You will relay the decision of Chevalet Blanc to Chairman Charlton. That is the duty you must fulfill.
Labyrinthia: Levin, send him off to the Council. And be careful, all right?
Levin: Yes ma'am! Leave it to me!
Martial Guard Corporal Magnus: Get your grubby hands off me, boy! I'm the commander of this fortress!

[Tony growls.]

Tony: Grrrr...
Martial Guard Corporal Magnus: A-all right, all right! Fine, I'll go!
Martial Guard Corporal Magnus: But hear this--You'll regret defying the kingdom, I promise you!
Levin: Nobody cares what you think. Now get moving!

[Levin escorts Magnus outside.]

Clarissa: Phew...
Felius: I wonder if that was wise...?
Labyrinthia: If everything proceeds according to the scenario I plotted out...
Labyrinthia: Clarissa's declaration of war will establish Chevalet Blanc as an enemy of the Council.
Clarissa: And hopefully, the more the Council is preoccupied with us, the more they'll lose their stranglehold on the people of Elesius...
Labyrinthia: I believe they will.
Labyrinthia: But still...
Clarissa: ...
Clarissa: ...I didn't want to feel like I was being dragged into this conflict.
Clarissa: Rather than having this fate thrust upon me, I wanted to seize it myself. I wanted to make it my own decision.

[She hangs her head, hair covering her eyes.]

Clarissa: I'm telling a terrible lie, and deceiving a great many people. I don't ever intend to forget that.
Felius: ...
Labyrinthia: On the day when you can finally tell the truth to the world, I'll be right there beside you, helping to explain. But until then--
Labyrinthia: You shall continue as commander of Chevalet Blanc, Princess Royal Alexia Lynn Elesius. And it is a pleasure to serve you, Your Highness.
Clarissa: ...Yes.

[She looks up and smiles.]

Clarissa: Felius, Labyrinthia, Levin...and you too, Tony... As long as I have your support, everything will work out fine.
Clarissa: Well, let's continue our inspection of the fortress. There must be some resources or information here that will aid us.

-Fort Molasar: Weapons Storeroom-

[A cut-in shows a yellow and black pedestal-like machine.]

Clarissa: Ah, what's this? The fort has an Access Point? No wonder this place was so heavily guarded!
Levin: Your Highness, is everything all right? You seem...different. I understand, but...
Clarissa: Everything's fine, Levin.
Clarissa: Let's connect our ARMs to this. We might be able to download some new classes.

[The cut-in is replaced by one of an ARM.]

-You unlocked the Sentinel class!-
-You unlocked the Sacred Slayer class!-
-You unlocked the Excavator class!-
-You unlocked the Geomancer class!-

Levin: Man, ARMs sure are handy! They make it easy to acquire all sorts of useful combat abilities.
Clarissa: They sure do. But on the other hand...
Clarissa: By making it so simple to acquire combat abilities... Perhaps they make it a bit too easy to bring about conflict with others...
Levin: ...
Clarissa: ...

[She brings her finger to her cheek.]

Clarissa: ...But who made these ARMs, anyway? And how...?

-Council Chamber-

[An androgynous, red-haired individual dressed in white steps forward, hands crossed behind his/her back.]

Man in White: It is a pleasure to accept your most gracious invitation, esteemed members of the Council. I am truly honored to stand before you for the first time.
Rupert: Who the hell's this guy? Is he even a guy at all? I can barely tell under that blinding white get-up...
Charlton: It's Weisheit.
Royal Knights Captain Eisen: Hmm...?
Edna: That's a lie! The Weisheit I know is a wizened old man.
Weisheit: I have learned a great deal about you all from my late predecessor.
Edna: Predecessor...?!
Weisheit: That is correct, madam. The name "Weisheit" is passed down from generation to generation.
Weisheit: Despite my youthfulness, I have inherited everything from my predecessor.
Weisheit: Thus I humbly propose that you consider me the new embodiment of "Weisheit".
Rupert: What the...? Am I the only one that's not gettin' any of this?
Edna: I'm not seeing the whole picture here either.
Edna: What I do know is...
Edna: Weisheit is the name of a merchant who has been dealing with the royal household for as long as I can remember.
Weisheit: Thus the renewed acquaintance.
Royal Knights Captain Eisen: Yet another suspicious entry to the Council...

[Edna turns to Charlton and yells at him.]

Edna: Was this appointment your doing? Hmm, Charlton?
Charlton: ...
Charlton: And with this, our cast is complete.

[The screen focuses on Weisheit before turning back and prompting the player to save.]
